Sometimes feelings are easier to create than to explain. ✨

Sand tray therapy gives children a safe, hands-on way to use sand and miniatures to build scenes that may reflect their emotions, experiences, relationships, worries, and hopes. Through play, children can share their inner world in ways that words alone may not capture.

Co-regulation starts with connection. đź’› When a child is overwhelmed, our calm can help guide their calm. Try lowering your body to their level, softening your voice, modeling deep breathing, offering deep pressure, and moving your bodies together. Small shifts can make a big difference in helping children feel safe, seen, and supported.

It’s not a child’s job to make sure the bills are paid, keep the family emotionally stable, or take on responsibilities that belong to adults. When a child is expected to care for a parent, mediate adult conflict, manage the household, or become the “little parent,” that can be a sign of parentification.

Parentification happens when a child is placed in a role that’s developmentally too big for them. It can lead to anxiety, guilt, perfectionism, resentment, and difficulty recognizing their own needs later in life. Children need safety, guidance, and room to be kids.

If this post feels familiar, remember: naming it is not blaming anyone. It’s about understanding the burden a child should never have had to carry.
