I just returned from a week in Dominica, Commonwealth of Dominica — one of the least-visited, most pristine islands in the Caribbean. No cruise ships. No crowds. Just volcanic mountains, black sand beaches, and some of the most extraordinary marine life I have ever seen.

These are my favorite images from beneath the surface.
A Giant Frogfish hiding in plain sight. A Glasseye Squirrelfish staring back at me with that impossible eye. A Christmas tree worm no bigger than a quarter, filtering the ocean one breath at a time. A Spotted Cleaner Shrimp — barely an inch long — tucked into a field of anemone polyps. Creatures most people will never know exist.

Every single one of them stopped me cold.
I am a surgeon by training. Precision, patience, and attention to detail are not just professional habits — they are how I move through the world. Underwater photography taught me that all over again on this trip. You cannot rush the reef. You cannot force the shot. You slow down, you get quiet, and you look. Really look. And when you do, the ocean reveals things that will take your breath away.
