It's been a very long day. You're tired and wired all at the same time. What are you supposed to do?

Crash on the couch? It might feel good for a moment, but that pent-up tension from the day will still be stuck in your body when you get up—and chances are, you won't actually feel rested.

The alternative? Start with some standing movements to meet that high-arousal energy where it is. From there, move slowly down to the floor for deep rest.

This is exactly what you'll find in my latest class, Sunset Yoga Flow. We move through a few standing shapes, make our way closer to the earth, and end in a lovely, supported constructive rest to close the practice.

Comment TRANSITION and I'll send the link directly to you (or tap the link in my bio). Come meet me standing on the mat!

Your stress response is an evolutionary survival mechanism—and because of it, your body defaults to muscle tension.

Your nervous system only knows "threat" and "safety." In modern life, it perceives threats constantly, from an inbox sitting at 1,347 unread emails to getting stuck in traffic. Your body can’t tell the difference between daily annoyances and a bear chasing you!

Because of that, we rarely complete the stress cycle to return to rest.

So, how do we start to regulate?

We start by standing and moving the body gently. Moving on your feet acts as a bridge to interrupt that stress loop, utilizing a bottom-up process to signal safety to your brain so your body can finally relax.

We use this exact science in my newest 20-minute class, Sunset Yoga Flow (now live on YouTube!). Tap the link in my bio to check it out.

Did you know your body needs movement to complete the stress cycle? Let me know below! 👇

Boundaries, people. Boundaries. 🔳

We all need them, but a lot of us don't set them—and yes, that definitely includes me. 😞

Wait, though: I'm not getting all psychological on you! I'm talking about the boundary of separating work life from home life. Which is especially hard if your work life happens inside your home. Am I right? 🙋‍♀️

So what do we do to separate the two and make that transition from work mode to home mode?

First and foremost: Turn Off Your Laptop! I know it’s hard, but I swear it's the single best first step to transitioning.

After that? Step outside, breathe some fresh air, and move your body. A few standing stretches always feel good to shake things off.

That's what I do: I close the laptop—symbolically shutting off my "work brain"—and stretch for a few minutes. Then I step outside, take a deep breath (or 12 😵‍💫), and use my doorway as a physical boundary. When I re-enter my home, I've left work behind.

It might sound simple, but having a tangible boundary helps switch my brain so I can actually relax and rest for the evening.

What is one non-negotiable thing that helps you leave work at work for the evening? Drop it in the comments—let's talk! 👇

What a day! 😫

How often have you said that? I know I can think of... well, a lot. 🤔

There have been SOOOOOO many days where I've felt completely wiped out after a tough workday. Honestly, the thought of working out? UGH. My brain was saying "just skip it."

But my body was saying something else: it needed to get rid of all that excess stress energy circulating in my system.

What's a girl to do? 🤷‍♀️

I chose to move a little (most of the time, anyway 😉—hey, I'm not perfect!).

And I'll tell you, I felt so much better once I did just a few standing stretches and movements. It helped release the tension that built up all day from hunching over my desk, staring at a computer screen, and dealing with tech issues I had to fix.

Be honest: when you're overwhelmed after work, what's your go-to way to handle it? Let me know in the comments—let's talk! 👇

I am so done.

It’s the end of the workday and all I want to do is sit.

But that may not actually be the best idea! Let’s take a quick minute to check in with ourselves.

Here are 3 physical cues you can check right now to see if you're holding stored tension from the day:
• Teeth clenched? Soften your chin and let your jaw drop.
• Shoulders up to your ears? Roll them back and down.
• Hips feeling tight?

Come on over and roll out your mat with me to practice my new Sunset Yoga Flow: 20-Minutes to Transition from Work to Rest.

Comment END OF DAY and I'll send you the link (or check the link in my bio). I'll meet you standing on the mat!

Will you be practicing with me tonight after work, or saving this for the weekend?

My new class on YouTube: Sunset Yoga Flow: 20-Minutes to Transition from Work to Rest is LIVE!

In this practice, we start standing with movements to help discharge tension and then slowly move to the floor for rest.

Starting in standing shapes allows your body to discharge the stress energy that's been building all day, instead of forcing yourself to sit still while that tension is still circulating.

That stress energy needs somewhere to go before we can settle in to rest.

Comment STANDING and I'll send the link for practice directly to your inbox. 📥

I don't want to stand up,
I want to lie down and rest." 😟

I hear you, but let me tell you why that backfires.

After a long day, your nervous system is amped up and holding stress you might not even notice.

Check in right now:
• Jaw clenched or chin tight?
• Shoulders up near your ears?
• Back feeling tense?

Uh huh, yup. I know. 😒

If you jump straight to lying down, that high-alert energy stays trapped. That's why my new class, Sunset Yoga Flow (dropping tomorrow at 10:00 AM EST!), starts standing.

We meet your body where it's at, discharge that stuck energy first, and then down-regulate so you can actually rest.

I used this exact flow yesterday after a challenging day and it shifted everything. Tap the link in my bio to subscribe so you're ready when it drops!

See you standing on the mat! ☺️
