What is Piriformis Syndrome❓
🔎 It is a neuromuscular disorder that occurs when the piriformis muscle (small muscle located between the gluteal muscles) spasms or tightens and compresses the sciatic nerve. Whenever the piriformis muscle is inflamed it can trigger secondary lower back pain through referred nerve pain, poor posture, or the body compensating for the tight muscle.
⚠️ Piriformis Syndrome Symptoms :
▪️Numbness, tingling, or weakness in the affected leg
▪️ Achy or shooting pain deep in the buttock area that can radiate upward into the lower back or down into the leg
▪️ Pain that worsens during prolonged sitting, running or climbing stairs
✅ Massage is an excellent/effective way to reduce piriformis syndrome symptoms by releasing tight muscles, relieving spasms, and alleviating pressure on the sciatic nerve.
