We are so grateful to everyone who came out this afternoon to help us recognize Ron and Janie Nirk and their legacy of support for health care in our community.

Today, we held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly dedicated Ron and Janie Nirk Potlatch Family Medicine Clinic.

The clinic was built in 2014, in part because of longtime support from Ron and Janie Nirk. The couple were vibrant and valued members of the Potlatch community in so many ways. The family’s support over the years allowed Gritman to invest in several services, including outpatient dialysis, community wellness programs, and advanced technology. The Potlatch community was so dear to the Nirks, and we are so glad that their legacy will live on in the service of health care for this community.

Calling all Vandals! Join us after the University of Idaho homecoming parade for a Gritman Downtown Tailgate Party. We will be providing complimentary hot dogs, chips and soft drinks at Gritman Medical Center - while they last.

Members of the Gritman Family will be outside of the main hospital building’s West entrance on Main Street starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, to help cheer on the Vandals.

Stay and mingle with members of the Gritman Team, including Charlie Bear. We can’t wait to see you there!

What an incredible evening! Thank you to everyone who joined us at the 2026 Gritman Foundation Pink Tea and Pink Cocktail to support our friends and neighbors impacted by cancer on the Palouse.

Case Management is a vital part of the Gritman Medical Center System and our commitment to providing exceptional, compassionate care.

Our dedicated Case Management team coordinates resources, services, referrals, and support for patients year-round so they can be successful when they discharge from the hospital.
While discharge planning is primarily utilized for patients admitted to the Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU) or Critical Care Unit (CCU), our Case Managers also see patients in Family Birth Center and the Emergency Department.

Hospital Case Management also manages the Swing Bed Program with several other clinical departments including MSU and Therapy Solutions.
The Clinic Case Management team helps Primary Care Providers with resources for patients in our community.

These teams works closely with the Chronic Care Manager, who assists Medicare patients with two or more chronic conditions, and Gritman Behavioral Health, which offers behavioral health counseling and medication management.

Together, these Case Management teams ensure patients receive continuous, well-rounded care tailored to their needs.

The Martin Wellness Center offers exercise programs for all ages and abilities. Our certified, highly trained staff can help you meet your wellness goals.

We offer the following classes:

Movement Matters Class: Circuit class aimed to develop strength, balance and mobility. Use exercise machines and balance equipment, as well as guided workouts.

PiYo: Instructor lead gentle Pilates- and Yoga-based exercise class. Works on strength, mobility, and balance.

PE for PD: Class designed for Parkinson’s patients. Please call 208-883-9605 for more details.

Early detection saves lives, and regular mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer early.

At last year's Pink Tea and Pink Cocktail, Heather Moon shared her story and encouraged women to schedule their annual screenings.

The Patricia J. Kempthorne Women’s Imaging Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology and recommends annual screenings starting at the age of 40 for women of average risk of developing breast cancer. For patients who may be at higher risk, earlier screenings may be recommended.

Through the Gritman Foundation, Bosom Buddies provides free screening mammograms to local women who are unable to pay for the screening on their own. This program is made possible in part through events like the Pink Tea and Pink Cocktail, as well as generous financial gifts by businesses and individuals in our community.

What a fun week! We had a great time this week meeting with students and future Gritman team members at career fairs on the campuses of Washington State University, the University of Idaho, and Lewis-Clark State College.

Dr. Sarah Kwate Lawrence has joined Gritman Internal Medicine with a goal to provide exceptional, empathetic care in the community where she grew up.

She specializes in treating medically complex older adults, has a strong passion for primary and preventative care, and sees the long-term relationships she gets to have with her patients as the most rewarding part of her job. In addition to Internal Medicine, Dr. Lawrence will see patients weekly at Gritman’s Troy Family Medicine Clinic.

"My passion is in complex older adult medicine — and then chronic disease management and preventative health care," she said.

Born and raised in Troy, Dr. Lawrence couldn't imagine anything better than coming home to live and provide care in the area she loves and the community that raised her.

In her spare time, Dr. Lawrence loves spending time with her husband, family, and very large dog, Hank, as well as camping, hiking, and exploring the mountains in their off-road Jeep.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating Connie Osborn’s 50-year career and well-earned retirement this past weekend!

At the event, we were thrilled to announce that the Gritman Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation facility has been renamed the Connie Osborn Cardiac Rehabilitation Center in honor of her founding the program in 1996.

Through the years, she has overseen many departments, been responsible for many projects, worked out of many offices and touched countless lives. She devoted 17 years to Gritman’s Critical Care Unit, served as the Director of the Medical-Surgical Unit, oversaw Gritman’s rural clinics, and much more. In 2006, she became the Chief Quality Officer, a position she will retire from later this year.

We are so grateful for Connie's countless contributions since first joining the organization in 1976, providing exceptional care in our community and setting an example for everyone across the Gritman Medical Center organization. Thank you, Connie!
