Our Surgical Services team recently had the pleasure of spending the day with a group of University of Idaho WWAMI Medical Education students for a hands-on learning experience, giving the future physicians insights into a surgery rotation.

Students learned about everything from scrubbing in, using surgical instruments, and they even had the opportunity to practice some of their surgical skills with a variety of educational activities. This annual event puts an important, but fun, spotlight on surgery services at our hospital.

Thank you to this dedicated group of students for letting us be a part of your journey as you study toward a future career in health care!

Congratulations to the entire Gritman Medical Center team for strides made in tissue and organ donation, including two meaningful awards for our hospital’s work in support of patients in the communities we serve.

LifeCenter Northwest honored Gritman with two awards for 2025, including the Organ Donation Process Excellence Award and the Tissue Donation Referral Achievement Award.

The Organ Donation Process Excellence Award is given to hospitals with a process error rate of 5% or less. Our experienced team had a process error rate of 0%. The Tissue Donation Referral Achievement Award is earned by hospitals with a timely tissue referral rate of 95% or greater. Gritman’s timely referral rate was 98% in 2025.

Each year, LifeCenter Northwest recognizes top-performing hospitals for their continued dedication to supporting donation and transplantation. LifeCenter Northwest made available 1,318 life-saving transplantable organs from 446 organ donors across its four-state service area in 2025, along with 60,750 life-enhancing tissue transplants across our region.

Such recognition wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of clinical and non-clinical teams from across the organization. Thank you for this concerted effort to ensure patients across the Northwest get the tissue and organ support they need.

We are so excited to congratulate our recent cohort of CNA program graduates — high school students with the Moscow School District!

After a year of work, in addition to their regular high school classes, more than a dozen Moscow and Paradise Creek high school students received their Certified Nursing Assistant certificates this week and will have a head start on their health care careers thanks to a partnership between Gritman Medical Center and the Moscow School District.

This 120-hour program combines academic learning with hands-on, real-world experience, operating in the hours before regular classes during the entire school year.

Led by Gritman Patient Care Program Educator Hollie Mooney, students first practice their technical skills through simulations using lifelike mannequins, then participate in clinical rotations where they engage in hands-on patient care at Gritman and area long-term care facilities. This extensive training allows students to master patient care techniques such as taking vital signs, dressing, and bathing.

It is so exciting to see the culmination of these students' hard work, and we are eager to see this program grow to help serve the health care needs of our community. We are proud to play a small role in developing the next generation of health care professionals in our community.

Congratulations, graduates!

David Bennett comes to the Gritman Medical Center Cardiac Rehabilitation gym a few times each week to maintain his heart health.

Cardiac Rehab is a 12-week medically supervised exercise program for patients who are recovering following a heart event. Led by exercise specialists, each participant is monitored to ensure proper levels of vital signs like pulse and blood pressure. Participants also keep an eye on these numbers so they can monitor their improvements over time.

Bennett is now a maintenance participant in the wellness program, and a graduate of the 12-week Cardiac Rehab program in which he enrolled after a 2024 emergency quadruple bypass surgery.

Bennett commends program leaders Kristi Trout and Allyssa Loesch for their support, and the community environment they have cultivated.

“We’re very fortunate in a community this size to have a facility as effective and widespread as Gritman is,” he said. “And certainly, it’s the best show on Earth for getting people back in working order.”

We are so grateful to the Moscow Chamber of Commerce + Visitor Center for hosting Gritman as the sponsor of this month's chamber luncheon. We had the opportunity to share information about some of our new providers, our MyChart patient portal and our upcoming Teddy Bear Clinic event June 20.

We enjoyed learning about tourism in our state from the Idaho Chamber Alliance and connecting with everyone across our community. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Please join us in recognizing Chief Quality Officer Connie Osborn on a unique and impressive milestone — 50 years of service to our patients!

Sunday, May 17, 2026, marked 50 years since Connie first joined the Gritman Family. Connie's unique connection and unwavering commitment to Gritman began at a young age. In 1976, while attending nursing school, she joined Gritman's clinical staff as a nurse's aide. Little did she know this would be the start of a long, and wide-ranging career with the medical system.

Through the years, Connie has worn many hats, overseen many departments, been responsible for many projects, worked out of many offices, lived through many Joint Commission surveys, and touched countless lives. She devoted 17 years to the Critical Care Unit, served as the Director of the Medical-Surgical Unit, established the Cardiac Rehabilitation program, oversaw Gritman’s rural clinics, and much more. In 2006, she became the Chief Quality Officer, a position she still holds today.

Connie is an integral and vital member of our Gritman Family. She takes great pride in Gritman’s commitment to providing exceptional care and ensuring a positive patient experience. She is truly the epitome of Quality. Over the span of her career, Connie has exemplified the Gritman Mission — providing extraordinary care to every patient, provider, and staff member she has worked with over the past five decades.

Congratulations, Connie!
