While absolutely stunning, dahlias like the two varieties pictured from our field (Lifestyle and Lady Kate) have a shorter vase life than other summer favorites, like zinnias and sunflowers.
Here are some tips to help all of your flowers last as long as possible:
1). Change your water anytime it looks cloudy, every-other-day is a good rule of thumb and wash the vase.
2). Cut about half an inch off the bottom of the stems each time you change your water. Cutting stems at a 45-degree angle also helps. Make sure your scissors / clippers are clean.
3). Add a little flower food, according to package instructions, each time you change the water. If you don't have any, a pinch of sugar helps.
4). Keep flowers cool and out of direct sunlight.

Few flowers are as nostalgic as the sweet pea.

My father’s mom, who is the inspiration behind Petals & Pistils, introduced me to sweet peas when I was very young and I remember their heady fragrance from across the garden. It was like no other. ❤️

🌱 When I started the business, sweet peas were the first flower I wanted to grow and share.

I started seeds in February. They were slow to sprout, difficult to transplant and seemed like they would never grow. They required So. Much. Patience. So much! ⏰

👃 But that scent...

The first flowers opened last week, but didn’t have a strong fragrance.

Until today! 😁 Today, they smell just like my grandma’s.

It seems fitting. She was my dad’s mom and today is Father’s Day. That sweet, intense fragrance reminds me of both of them. ❤️

To all the dads out there: Thanks for all you do for your children and families. We wish you each a very Happy Father’s Day! 👨
