Asha Vista Behavioral Institute

Asha Vista Behavioral Institute Across our community, people already see mental health as essential care, but many still struggle to find a hospital bed close to home when a crisis hits.

Our purpose is to provide compassionate, effective, and inspiring care for the Grand Strand.

If you or someone you love is going through a hard time with mental health, know that support is out there. NAMI Grand Strand's Family Support Group meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at the Carolina Forest Library, and it's a space to talk, listen, and be around people who actually get it.

The next meeting is August 20th, from 5:30 to 6:45 PM. If you've been thinking about going, this is a good one to start with.

Location: Carolina Forest Library, 2250 Carolina Forest Blvd

The Asha Vista team had the pleasure of meeting with Keith Holland, CEO and Founder of Joint Task Force K9s (JTFK9s), a Horry County-based nonprofit that trains and places service dogs with veterans across the nation. Their work helps reduce su***de risk and supports veterans living with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries — improving mobility, independence, and overall quality of life.

A great way to support this incredible nonprofit is by purchasing their very first children's book, "Quill's First Mission". 100% of all book sales go directly back to Joint Task Force K9s, helping them continue their mission of supporting veterans and first responders. We deeply appreciate the compassion and dedication of Keith and his entire team in serving veterans. And a special thank you to Quill, the organization’s mascot, for visiting us too!

Today is International Self-Care Day, and we are celebrating the small moments that help us show up for others. For Spencer Gray, our HR Director, that looks like going on walks, grabbing a coffee from Brown Fox, and taking in the views along the Marshwalk to reset. It's simple, but it makes a difference in how she shows up for the team.

At Asha Vista Behavioral Institute, taking care of yourself is an important part of caring for our community. How are you practicing self-care today?

Healing happens in many different ways. We're always encouraged to see organizations like Project Golf's PGA HOPE program creating opportunities for connection, purpose, and support for veterans in our community. ⛳

MYTH: Mental health struggles are a sign of weakness.
FACT: They are health conditions, not character flaws.

Stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and burnout can affect anyone. Asking for help is not weakness. It is strength.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s end the stigma and remind people they deserve support.

Be Seen in Green and stand up for mental health, and share your photos!

Stress Awareness Month is a reminder that stress is not just “part of life” to push through. Left unaddressed, it can affect sleep, mood, relationships, work, and overall health.

This month, let’s move from awareness to action:

✅ Check in with yourself: Are you more irritable, exhausted, overwhelmed, or disconnected than usual?
✅ Normalize the conversation: Ask a friend, family member, or coworker, “How are you really doing?”
✅ Build one small daily reset: a 10-minute walk, deep breathing, less screen time at night, or a break to step outside
✅ Know when to seek support: Reaching out for mental health care is a sign of strength, not weakness

Choose one action today, for yourself or for someone you love.
