The common misconception is that the “pop” is the actual bones moving during the adjustment. The reality is that it is gas, such nitrogen or oxygen, being released in the joint fluid. As a doctor that practices using mainly the Thompson Technique, we don’t typically hear that cracking noise due to the sound of the drop pieces masking it and because the body is in neutral, not significantly rotated as you see with some other Chiropractic techniques.
