What should you expect at your first yoga class?
Trying something new can feel a little intimidating, but knowing what to expect can make that first step much easier.
Plan to arrive about 10 to 15 minutes early so you have time to check in, meet your instructor, and get settled without feeling rushed.
You can choose a comfortable mat space, gather any props your instructor recommends, and take a few moments to breathe before class begins.
During class, you are encouraged to follow along at your own pace. You can use modifications, pause when needed, or rest at any time. There is no pressure to keep up, perform, or make your practice look like anyone else’s.
Wondering what to wear? Choose comfortable clothing that allows you to move and breathe easily. You do not need expensive yoga clothes, a matching outfit, or anything fancy. Wear what helps you feel comfortable and like yourself.
You may want to bring:
• Water
• A yoga mat, if you have one
• Any health, injury, balance, or mobility information you would like your instructor to know
• An open mind and a little curiosity
Do not have a mat or props? The Bend has everything you need to get started.
Your first class is not about knowing all the poses. It is simply about showing up, settling in, and allowing yourself to begin.
Your first class is easier when you know what to expect.
