Swim Across America Nantucket Swim Across America, Inc., [SAA] is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming- related events.

With the help of hundreds of volunteers and Olympians, SAA is helping find a cure for cancer. "Funds raised by this year’s swim will be used by Nantucket Cottage Hospital to develop its oncology services and by Palliative & Supportive Care of Nantucket (PASCON) to develop a designated Cancer Support Program. Together these programs will ensure that Nantucket residents with cancer will have the best of what’s needed for their care - expert cancer treatment and excellent support services."

While we had an absolutely wonderful day today at our main event, Mother Nature has caused us to cancel tomorrow’s 2-mile and 4-mile event due to safety concerns with the high north winds. But though the weather may prevent us from executing the longer swim, the real goal is already done — this hearty group of fearless swimmers has raised nearly 1/3 of all funds raised to date. We will continue to carry the torch and make waves to fight cancer and we will be back again next year. Thank you to everyone who donated and supported these swimmers!

This week’s spotlight is Jen Allen from Team Fisher Real Estate! Jen has been part of Swim Across America Nantucket since the very beginning and has participated every single year. As a member of the SAA Nantucket committee, she helps make the event possible while also taking on the 4-mile/2-mile relay each summer.

When asked what brought her to SAA Nantucket, Jen shared:
“Jill & Steve Roethke were among the first few people I met when I moved to Nantucket 18 years ago, so when SAA Nantucket was started, I immediately knew I wanted to join the cause! Year after year, it’s been an integral part of my community experience. I’ve met so many wonderful people, and it’s been absolutely incredible to see how it’s grown, both in participation and in the fundraising.”

Jen’s favorite part of event day is “The absolute magic that unfolds.  From watching the sun rise in one of the most beautiful settings in the world while we get set up; to watching the joy and courage of the young swimmers in the kids’ splash; to the gathering of us all under the tent, sharing tears in honor of loved ones in memory and banding together to support the ones who need us most.  It is truly my favorite day of the year.”

It’s officially event week and this we’re celebrating all 35 teams participating in this year’s Swim Across America Nantucket.

Every team has a reason to swim. Cancer’s impact is far-reaching, touching the lives of everyone, whether through personal experince, family, friends, or neighbors. SAA-Nantucket brings the island community togehter, emphasizing that no one has to face the battle against cancer alone. Togehter, we strive to make a meaningful impact.

This final is dedicated to everyone who has signed up, donated, volunteered, fundraised, or cheered us on. Because when it comes to the fight against cancer, we’re all on the same team.

Thank you to each and every one of our teams for your passion, dedication, and support. We can’t wait to make waves with you this Saturday as we come together to fight cancer.
