The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any. ~ Alice Walker ~

I've been getting more and more referrals from women who are taking GLP-1 medications for weight loss.
Many of them know that I'm an Intuitive Eating and Body Trust provider. I don't advertise myself as a 'weight loss dietitian' as my practice is rooted in a weight-inclusive approach.

I'll admit, I find it interesting that people are finding me in this place.
Many of the women who reach out to me are scared.

They're afraid of going off the medication. They're worried about weight regain. They're worried that hunger will come back. They're worried that the constant thoughts about food, hunger, and eating—the thing many people now call "food noise"—will return.

They're worried they'll end up right back where they started.

So I often find myself asking: How can I best support them on their journey?

As a nutrition therapist, my job isn't to tell people what to do. It's not to have an agenda. It's not to convince someone to stay on a medication or come off one.

My job is to meet people where they are.
To ask questions.
To listen deeply.
To help them discover what is true for them.
To help them hear their own intuitive guidance—or what I often call their healing inner intelligence (a term I borrow my my psychedelic research articles)

Now, if I'm being transparent, there are things I hope for.

I hope people learn to trust their bodies again.
I hope they can step out of the endless dieting cycle.
I hope they can stop letting a number on a scale determine whether they're having a good day or a bad one. Or whether they are worthy of self-acceptance or not.
I hope they can loosen their grip on macro counting and other longevity optimization hacks (ha!)
I hope they can move toward body neutrality, body acceptance and perhaps one day, loving the body they inhabit.

But those are my hopes.
They are not my decisions to make.
Ultimately, the path belongs to the person sitting across from me.

What I can do is provide informed consent. I can share what we know—and what we don't know—about these medications. Thank goodness for people like Ragen Chastain, whose research and writing continue to bring much-needed nuance to this conversation. If you're not already subscribed to her Substack, I highly recommend it.

I'll do my best to offer education—with permission—even when it challenges everything we've been taught about food, weight, health, and bodies.

And I'll continue to trust that people are wiser than we've been led to believe.
That beneath the fear, beneath the food rules, beneath decades of dieting, there is an inner intelligence that knows the way home.
My role is simply to help them listen.

And for many women who are considering coming off a GLP-1 medication, that may be the most important work of all.

People often assume that because I’m a weight-neutral dietitian that teaches Intuitive Eating, I won’t support clients who are seeking intentional weight-related goals. This isn't true.

Hear me out before you judge.

We are very much in the age of Ozempic and GLP-1 medications—and I’m not here to give you my opinion about these medications. I’m here to support you and meet you where you are.

If you’re currently on one of these medications and thinking about coming off, or if you’re already off and worried about weight regain, muscle loss, or your relationship with food in any way, please know that there are more sustainable ways to approach food, your body, and your health.

We don’t yet have enough long-term research on these medications, so unless you plan to stay on them indefinitely, you will likely need support to sustain changes and integrate more sustainable behaviors into your day-to-day life—especially if you’re feeling anxious about weight regain, muscle loss, or the return of “food noise.”

If this resonates, feel free to send me a direct message. Thanks!
