Jaw tension isn't always just a jaw problem.
If you clench or grind your teeth, you might notice the obvious symptoms—jaw tightness, soreness, or discomfort when chewing.
But you may also notice:
• Headaches or pressure around the temples
• Tightness through the face and cheeks
• Neck and shoulder tension
• A tired or achy jaw when you wake up
• Difficulty getting your jaw to fully relax
The muscles that move your jaw don't work in isolation. That's why when I work with clients dealing with jaw tension, I don't necessarily focus only on the spot that hurts.
TMJ-focused massage can include work around the jaw, face, head, neck, and shoulders. I also offer optional intraoral massage, using gloves to work specific muscles from inside the mouth that are difficult to access externally.
Intraoral work is always optional and consent-based.
If you've been dealing with recurring jaw tension, headaches, or clenching, it may be worth looking beyond just the jaw.
