I think sometimes we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to choose one.

If we’re grateful, we shouldn’t complain.
If life is good, we shouldn’t be struggling.
If we’re happy, we shouldn’t also be tired, overwhelmed, or ready for something to change.

But life is rarely that simple.

You can deeply appreciate what you have and still acknowledge what feels hard.

You can love the life you’ve built and still need rest.

You can be happy and still be figuring things out.

Two things can be true at once

Gold star behavior

Nothing fancy. Nothing extreme. Just some of the little things I think make a BIG difference over time.

And yes… pooping every day absolutely earns a gold star.

What would you add?

Apparently packing for vacation means dedicating approximately 47% of the luggage to snacks. 🫣

But having food with us makes traveling SO much easier.
I try to prioritize protein, gluten-free options, recognizable ingredients and foods that will actually keep us full, while still bringing things that feel like a treat.

Realistically, I don’t think eating well while traveling has to mean eating perfectly.

Some of these are everyday choices. Some are definitely more “vacation snack.” And I’m perfectly okay with that.

The goal is having better options available when someone inevitably announces they’re starving 23 minutes after we leave.

Which one of these would disappear first in your family?

Sometimes the things we hear make us work a little harder to stay calm.

Nutrition, gut health, labs, lifestyle… context matters, details matter, and sometimes “mostly” just doesn’t give us the information we need.

Not every healthy habit has to be complicated.

Sometimes, one of the best things you can do for your child’s developing brain is simply let them be outside.

Walking on uneven ground, carrying sticks, climbing, balancing, and exploring the world through all of their senses gives the brain rich information it can’t get from a screen or even from a perfectly flat indoor floor.

Outdoor play naturally challenges:
Balance and coordination
Strength and posture
Vision and depth perception
Sensory processing
Motor planning
Creativity and problem-solving

Sunlight also helps support healthy circadian rhythms, while time in nature encourages movement, curiosity, and independent play.

You don’t need a perfect activity or expensive equipment. Sometimes all it takes is a walk, a stick, and the freedom to explore.

Simple things really do matter.

What’s your child’s favorite thing to find outside?

The little things usually end up being the big things. That’s why we talk about them every single day.

We hear it all the time:
“I’m just getting older.”
“I’m just tired.”
“This is probably normal.”

While many symptoms have common explanations, persistent symptoms can also be signs that something deserves a closer look. Rather than assuming they’re “just part of life,” functional medicine asks what factors may be contributing.

We look at things like nutrition, sleep, stress, gut health, inflammation, hormones, and other pieces of the puzzle to better understand what’s going on.

The goal isn’t to chase symptoms. It’s to understand why they’re happening.

Many people spend so much time feeling overwhelmed, mentally exhausted, or constantly “on” that they forget what it feels like to simply be present.

To slow down.

To notice what’s around them.

To enjoy quiet moments without their mind racing.

That’s the goal.

Whether it’s spending time with your family casting a fishing line into the water, having a conversation without distraction, or ending the day feeling mentally clear, brain health is about so much more than reducing symptoms.

We use ExoMind as one of the tools to support brain function for individuals who may be struggling with focus, emotional regulation, or mental fatigue. Every person is different, and every treatment plan is individualized.

The goal isn’t just changing how the brain functions.

It’s helping people get back to the moments that make life meaningful.

We love the incredible therapies and technologies available today.

But we also believe in the BASICS.

Sunlight.
Movement.
Sleep.

Before the screens.
Before the schedules.
Before the endless to-do lists.

Children were DESIGNED to move, explore, climb, run, dig, balance, create, and spend time outdoors.

These simple experiences provide POWERFUL input for the developing brain and nervous system.

Never underestimate the impact of the fundamentals.
Sometimes the simplest things are also the most powerful.
