A fascinating long-term study followed 324 healthy female twins for 10 years and found that women with greater leg power at baseline experienced less cognitive decline over the following decade.

Even more interesting: in a subset who underwent brain imaging about 12 years later, greater leg power was associated with greater total gray matter volume. And when researchers compared twins with different levels of leg power, the stronger twin tended to have better cognitive aging—helping reduce the influence of shared genetics and early environment.
