Today, the Wetzel-Tyler Health Department had the opportunity to provide training for substitutes, new staff and coaches. Participants received hands-on training in Mass Casualty Response, CPR/First Aid/AED, and Stop the Bleed.

Emergencies can happen anywhere, and having people who are trained and confident in those critical first moments can make all the difference. From knowing how to respond to a large-scale emergency to providing lifesaving care until help arrives, these skills are an important part of keeping our schools and communities safe.

We’re proud to work alongside Tyler County Schools and help equip their staff with the knowledge and skills to recognize an emergency, respond with confidence, and potentially save a life. 🩹❤️

We are proud to recognize the dedication of our Registered Nurse Amanda Amos and Administrator Ashley Guiler (BSN, RN) who recently completed 64 hours of advanced emergency preparedness training through the Community Disaster Preparedness for Healthcare Certificate Program.

This intensive training covered critical topics including:
• Medical management of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) incidents
• Medical countermeasure planning and response
• Medical preparedness for bombing incidents
• Pediatric disaster response and emergency preparedness

Emergency preparedness is more than a requirement it’s a commitment. By completing this comprehensive training, our team has strengthened the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively during public health emergencies and disasters, ensuring we’re better equipped to protect and serve the residents of Wetzel and Tyler Counties when they need us most. 👏🏼

SPARC (Special Preparedness and Response Collaborative) Training

The Wetzel Tyler Health Department Threat Preparedness Program participated in a Special Preparedness and Response Collaborative (SPARC) training. This interactive program consisted of a tabletop exercise focused on recognizing infectious disease risks and strengthening coordinated response efforts through quick recognition and effective communication.

Participants worked through a realistic scenario that emphasized the roles of public health personnel, rapid care clinics, ER staff, and initial first responders in identifying potential infectious disease threats. Rapid identification and isolation can help mitigate exposures and potential spread of disease threats.

The training reinforced best practices for protecting responders through the proper selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), infection prevention and control measures, and exposure mitigation strategies.
