Nola's Gardening Dietitian

Nola's Gardening Dietitian From the swamps to the city helping folks discover a deeper connection with food, our health, and the world around us through nutrition education. Hi!

I’m Mallory Naquin, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and founder of NOLA’s Gardening Dietitian, a virtual wellness consulting practice. I am so excited to now be accepting new clients!! After graduating from Tulane, I began my career in dietetics by pursuing my passion for nutrition education. I served in AmeriCorps, where I developed and taught culinary programs. My role continued to grow at the

Edible Schoolyard, becoming an educator, site gardener, greenhouse manager, and Cafe Liaison. I taught nutrition, culinary, and regenerative agriculture in school gardens with pollinators, chickens, goats and a pot belly pig. I grew 1000’s of plants for acres of school gardens and their surrounding communities for almost a decade. Today, I continue to serve communities as a Louisiana Master Gardener where I create and maintain butterfly gardens and lead wildflower walks. I also teach STEM education and provide virtual nutrition consultations. I advance my ability to help clients with training and certifications in dietetics and nutrition coaching, gut health, sustainable food practices and dive deep into evidence based nutrient research. My passion is to help the community better understand our individual self, food and the world around us as an integral part of the seemingly complicated, joyful, grand act of nourishing ourselves. Teaching essential life tools, striving for balance with nature, and improving nutritional intake to achieve optimal health goals.

It’s the beginning of spoonbill nesting season! Our visit to a rookery deep in Cajun country led us to cross paths with Louisiana State Arboretum State Preserve. We wondered through rainbow irises as far as our eyes could see and the blooming big leaf magnolia! known for having the largest leaves and flowers of any native tree in North America!! Stopped for seafood along the way at the historic Steamboat. where even the rice is nice 🥰

Sound on! for the voice of a budding botanist. The candlestick cassia is one of my favorite shrubs to include in butterfly gardens. Its stunning, bright, yellow blooms and lush foliage are the host plant for the sulfur butterfly. Easy to grow, hardy tropical.
