The Church Didn’t Just Tell A Story. They Stole One, Flipped It, And Used It To Cage Half The World.
Let me tell you something the church never wanted you to find out.
The story of Adam and Eve is not original.
It was not divinely authored from a blank slate. It was not a revelation handed down from the heavens to a chosen scribe.
It was borrowed, reworked, and deliberately inverted from a far older story, a Sumerian myth called Enki and Ninhursag, written on clay tablets around 2000 BCE, more than a thousand years before the biblical version ever existed.
And the changes they made were not accidental.
They were surgical. They were intentional.
And they were designed to do one thing: take the power that belonged to women, to the feminine, to the goddess, and bury it so deep beneath shame, blame, and subservience that we would spend thousands of years trying to dig ourselves out.
THE ORIGINAL STORY: WHAT THE TABLETS ACTUALLY SAY
In the beginning, there was Dilmun.
The Sumerian paradise, a sacred land described as pure, clean, and luminous, a land of the living that knew neither sickness nor death.
This is the original Eden.
Scholars have confirmed that the biblical garden “planted eastward in Eden,” through which flow the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, maps almost precisely onto Dilmun. This was not a coincidence. This was a copy.
In Dilmun lived the great god Enki, the Sumerian water deity, a male god with immense power and an equally immense lack of self-restraint.
And in this sacred paradise, surrounded by eight holy plants that Ninhursag, the great Mother Goddess, had carefully cultivated and forbidden him to eat, Enki could not help himself.
He ate them anyway.
Read that again.
In the original story, it is the MAN who eats the forbidden fruit. It is the GODDESS who says do not eat it. And it is HE who suffers the consequences.
After eating the sacred plants, Enki’s body is cursed. He falls gravely ill, afflicted in eight parts of his body, one for each plant he devoured in his arrogance. His rib is among the organs diseased and broken.
And who heals him?
Ninhursag.
The same goddess he defied. The same feminine power he disrespected. She returns, not in wrath, but in sovereignty, and she draws from her own divine body eight healing deities, one to cure each of Enki’s ailments. For his rib, she births a goddess named Ninti.
Ninti. Let that name sit with you.
In Sumerian, the word ti carries a double meaning. It means rib. And it means to make live. So Ninti was simultaneously “the Lady of the Rib” AND “the Lady Who Makes Live.” She was the healer. The life-giver. The one who restored what was broken. She was the source.
She was not made from his rib.
She healed his rib. She was the one with the power.
NOW WATCH WHAT THEY DID
When the scribes and priests of the Abrahamic tradition absorbed this story, largely during the Babylonian Exile in the 6th century BCE when Hebrew scholars had direct contact with Mesopotamian texts and mythology, they did not simply retell it.
They performed a complete inversion. Point by point. Deliberately.
👉 In the original: The man eats the forbidden fruit.
In the Bible: The woman eats the forbidden fruit.
👉 In the original: The goddess tells the man not to eat it.
In the Bible: A male god gives the instruction, and the woman is blamed for the transgression.
👉 In the original: The goddess heals the man’s rib and births a life-giving deity from that act of healing.
In the Bible: The woman is created FROM the man’s rib, a passive object formed from his body, subordinate by the very nature of her origin.
👉 In the original: Ninti is “she who makes live,” a goddess of life and healing.
In the Bible: Eve is “mother of all living,” but she arrives already blamed, already shamed, already cursed.
👉 In the original: The serpent is sacred. Across ancient Near Eastern and goddess traditions, the serpent was a symbol of wisdom, healing, regeneration, and divine feminine power.
The caduceus, the symbol of medicine we still use today, descends from this lineage. Serpents shed their skin and are reborn. They were not evil. They were enlightened.
👉 In the Bible: The serpent is Satan. Corrupted. Villainous. The enemy.
Do you see the pattern?
Everything that held power in the original, the goddess, the woman, the serpent, the sacred plants, the act of knowing, was recast as the source of sin, corruption, and humanity’s downfall.
This was not theology. This was politics.
THE CHURCH KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS DOING
Let me be direct.
The early Church Fathers, the men who shaped Christian doctrine across the first several centuries, were not confused about women. They were threatened by them.
Tertullian, one of the most influential theologians of early Christianity, wrote in the 2nd century CE: “You are the devil’s gateway. You are the unsealer of that forbidden tree.”
He was speaking to women. All women.
Describing Eve’s so-called transgression as the spiritual inheritance of every woman who would ever live.
This is not ancient history with no bearing on the present. This theological framing, woman as the vector of sin, woman as the one who led man astray, woman as spiritually inferior and in need of male governance, became the operating system of Western civilization for over a thousand years. It was the justification for:
The burning of millions of women as witches, the majority of whom were healers, herbalists, midwives, and carriers of the old goddess traditions.
The doctrine of coverture, which legally erased a woman’s identity upon marriage, making her the property of her husband with no right to own land, enter contracts, or testify in court.
The removal of women from religious leadership, from theological authority, from the written record of history itself.
The pathologizing of female sexuality, female knowledge, female power, and female autonomy as inherently suspect, dangerous, and requiring control.
The serpent they demonized was wisdom.
The goddess they erased was sovereignty.
The woman they blamed was never the problem.
She was the whole point.
EVE WAS NOT THE VILLAIN. SHE WAS THE ORIGINAL TRUTH-SEEKER.
Even within the Bible’s own heavily edited framework, if you read Eve’s story clearly, without the patriarchal lens you were handed at birth, what do you see?
You see a woman who looked at the tree of knowledge and chose to know.
You see a woman who was not satisfied with blind obedience when understanding was available.
You see a woman who, when offered wisdom, said yes.
The church called this the Fall. But what if it was the Awakening?
What if the original tradition, the one they worked so hard to erase, understood that a woman reaching for truth and enlightenment was not sin?
What if it was sacred?
In the Sumerian world, it was. Wisdom goddesses like Inanna descended into the underworld to claim power. Ninhursag built life and healed what was broken. Feminine energy was not passive or subordinate. It was generative, sovereign, and divine.
They could not build the empire of patriarchal religion on top of that foundation. So they had to demolish it first.
And they almost succeeded.
DO YOUR RESEARCH. ALWAYS.
This is precisely why I am always digging. Always researching. Always going back further than the version of the story I was handed. And this is one of the core reasons why I am so deeply, unequivocally against organized religion.
Not spirituality. Never spirituality. I am deeply, devotedly, unapologetically spiritual. My relationship with the divine is one of the most sacred things I carry. I refuse to take the Bible or anything the church pushes on us at face value, and I never will.
I research. I dig. I cross-reference. I go back to the source. And I encourage every single one of you to do the same. Your spiritual sovereignty depends on your willingness to ask questions that make people uncomfortable.
But organized religion is not spirituality. It never was.
Organized religion is a system. And like every system built by those hungry for power, it runs on lies, deception, and the deliberate, calculated brainwashing of people who were only ever looking for God.
They took that seeking, that pure and beautiful human longing for the divine, and they weaponized it. They built institutions on top of it.
They rewrote ancient wisdom, erased goddess traditions, inverted sacred stories, and handed the edited version to billions of people as the unquestionable word of the divine.
And then they told you not to ask questions.
That alone should tell you everything.
Because I understand the difference between authentic divine truth and a political document dressed in holy language.
The story we just walked through is not a fringe theory or a conspiracy. It is documented. It is sourced. It is sitting on clay tablets that predate the Bible by over a thousand years.
They knew. They always knew. And they changed it anyway.
The tablets existed before the Bible.
Ninhursag existed before Eve.
The goddess who healed the rib, who gave life, who held dominion over the sacred garden, she was there first. And she was never the secondary character. She was never the subordinate. She was never the problem.
She was the source.
I am asking you, begging you, imploring you as a fellow seeker of truth: do not let anyone hand you a story and tell you it is sacred without asking who wrote it, when they wrote it, what existed before it, and whose power was erased in the rewrite.
Question everything.
Research everything.
Your sovereignty is on the other side of the questions they told you not to ask.
And somewhere in you, if you are a woman reading this, if you are a starseed, a healer, a witch, an awakened soul who has always felt the pull of something older and truer than what you were taught, you already knew this.
You felt it.
Because the original story is written in your cells.
And no amount of inversion, no amount of religious editing, no amount of centuries-long propaganda, could fully erase what the divine feminine actually is.
They tried.
She remains.
