One of the biggest misconceptions about preventing type 2 diabetes is that it’s simply about diet and exercise.

It isn’t.

From the perspectives of both Yoga and Ayurveda, lasting health comes from addressing the root causes of imbalance. Chronic stress, poor sleep, unhealthy routines, emotional dysregulation, and improper nutrition all contribute to insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction.

This is why yoga is so much more than physical postures.

Through breathwork, meditation, mindfulness, movement, and conscious daily habits, yoga helps regulate the nervous system and create the behavioral changes necessary for long-term health. Ayurveda complements this with individualized nutrition, daily routines, digestive support, and lifestyle practices that restore balance before disease develops.

Together, Yoga and Ayurveda offer a powerful, holistic approach to preventing type 2 diabetes and creating lasting wellness.

As my education has expanded through Ayurveda, Integrative Medicine, and the CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program, I’ve completely evolved the Jai Bhakti 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training to reflect this integrated approach.

If you’ve previously completed or enrolled in the training, you’ll receive complimentary access to the updated curriculum in the coming months.

If you’re feeling called to teach yoga, deepen your practice, or learn how Yoga and Ayurveda can support lifelong health, let’s connect for a one-on-one discovery call and see if this next step is right for you.

✨ A return to the Self… with a capital S. ✨

Today, my intention was simple: return to yoga.

After being away from the studio for quite some time, I arrived expecting one experience and quickly realized it wasn’t the class I thought I had signed up for. For the first time in all my years of practicing yoga, I quietly turned around and left. It wasn’t the studio’s fault—it was mine for not reading the class description.

So, I came home.

I rolled out my mat, opened my YouTube channel, and selected the very first class on my channel that popped up… Beginner Serenity Restorative Flow.

Ironically, it was exactly what I needed.

As I listened to my own voice guiding the practice, I found myself laughing at the moments where I stumbled over my words, but I also found waves of emotion moving through me. Even though the class was designed to be gentle and restorative, some of the postures challenged me, not because they were difficult, but because of everything I’ve been carrying.

Life has a way of asking us to pause.

Transitions.
Endings.
New beginnings.
Retrogrades.
Awakenings….

The words people speak that can cut more deeply than we expect. The pain they feel and pour onto you, and as someone who wants to repair everything, it was the first time I had to to stop so I can repair mySelf.

Through it all, yoga has remained my anchor.

It was my first passion, and it always will be.

As I practiced today, I realized this wasn’t simply a return to yoga.

It was a return to the Self.

To the part of me that remembers who I am beneath the noise.
The part that breathes before reacting.
The part that chooses peace over fear.
The part that has always been there… waiting patiently for me to come hOMe.

If you’ve been feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or simply in need of a moment to breathe, I’d love to share this practice with you.

It’s a true beginner class, designed to meet you exactly where you are.

Sometimes healing doesn’t require us to become someone new.

Sometimes it simply asks us to remember who we’ve been all along.

A return to the Self.

Back to the breath.
Back to the heart.
Back to Om. 🤍🧘‍♀️

Starting to take my body back.
Starting to take my mind back.

I’ve been battling severe depression for a while now, along with a secret recovery from a mild stroke I had about 2 yrs ago. Fluctuating between discipline and neglect, between consistent practice and being consumed by my thoughts. In Ayurveda, they call it Prahgya Aparadha, when the mind gets lost in negative patterns and forgets its truth.

It hasn’t been for the faint of heart. Many would’ve given up and found the quick and easy way out to meet their maker. But perseverance, honesty, integrity, and never giving up are core values of mine.

I’ve also been trying to navigate different career paths, searching for what truly calls me and trying to find myself again in the process. As an Ayurvedic Health Consultant, we are not immune to the intensity of energy -good or bad- that enters our fields. Coming back home to the mat at this yoga studio in Austin called gave me the momentum I was seeking.

Today’s Align and Shine flow wasn’t hard because of the asana, it was hard because of staying present. That was the real practice.

Something is shifting inside me. More compassion for myself. More peace. More awareness. Major internal changes unfolding. And the desire to teach and work in the field again as a “healer.”

Every day is an opportunity to choose differently. Thank you to whoever read this. I appreciate your time.

What choice are you making today?
