Researchers at the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center have been awarded a $3.1 million NIH grant to advance pancreatic cancer research -- one of the nation's deadliest cancers. Even more remarkable, the five-year award received a rare perfect NIH impact score of 10, placing it among the highest-ranked applications in the country.

Led by LSU Health New Orleans' Drs. Samarpan Majumder and Rinku Majumder, the team will study how Protein S influences pancreatic cancer growth and cancer-associated blood clots, with the goal of developing new therapeutic strategies for patients.

This landmark award is the first NIH R01 pancreatic cancer grant led by a Louisiana investigator since the mid-1980s and the first ever at LSU Health New Orleans, strengthening Louisiana's leadership in cancer research and accelerating our journey toward NCI designation.
