September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. A time to raise awareness about prevention, early detection and advances in treatment.

Dr. Amelia Jernigan, member of the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center and LCMC Health Cancer Service Line Director, recently joined FOX 8 to discuss ovarian cancer awareness and the 5th Annual Where Hope Blooms: A Teal Luncheon to support LSU Health New Orleans Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

A new treatment is bringing new hope to a local patient with pancreatic cancer. After a difficult course of chemotherapy, a newly approved targeted pill has helped her feel “night and day” better, showing the life-changing potential of innovative cancer therapies.

The LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center has a Biobank that helps advance cancer research across Louisiana and the Gulf South.

The Biobank collects and securely stores tissue, blood and other samples voluntarily provided by patients. Researchers can use these samples to better understand cancer and explore new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.

We were honored to celebrate the expansion of cancer care at University Medical Center New Orleans, an important milestone that will help connect more patients with highly specialized physicians, innovative treatments and clinical trials close to home.

This expansion strengthens the partnership between LSU Health New Orleans and LCMC Health, advances our shared journey toward NCI designation and builds a stronger future for cancer research and care across Louisiana.
