CPR isn’t just a medical skill. In a cardiac emergency, anyone can be the difference before professional help arrives.

Parents, caregivers, neighbors, coworkers and friends are often the true first responders. When more people are ready, more lives are saved. If you see a teen or adult collapse, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest.

This is a perfect time to evaluate your readiness to act quickly, with confidence and knowledge in a cardiac emergency. Sudden Cardiac Arrest kills >360,000 people each year in the US. It occurs 1,000 times every day - but only 1 in 10 will survive. It's been this way for far too long! Why is this not treated like a public health crisis? As bystanders to an SCA, we are not prepared. It's the bystander(s) who often determines the fate of a cardiac arrest victim. Are you prepared?

Do you know the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest and how to recognize each one? Do you know the specific actions to take in each case? If not, then you are not prepared! With 70% of Cardiac Arrests occurring in the home, then you are not prepared to help someone you probably really love.

Is there really anything greater we can do than help save another person’s life? Isn’t this the definition of a Hero? Let us help YOU be prepared to be that Hero!

Every year, more than 436,000 people suffer Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Yet only 40% receive immediate help before EMS arrives. That means the majority of victims don’t get the critical, lifesaving assistance they need in those first few minutes when every second truly counts.

We have got to do better than this!

CPR Week starts June 1, but don’t wait to learn the two simple steps of Hands-Only CPR. If a teen or adult collapses, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest. In a cardiac emergency, anyone can help save a life.

Gators may rule the swamp, but preparedness rules the day. Heartbeat NOLA made sure the Zip NOLA crew isn’t just ready for high-flying adventure — they’re ready when hearts need a lift too. Nancy trained their staff in CPR, because even over the swamp, being prepared can save a life.

Part of our consistent message is that we have to care about each other and love each other and our community to be the type of person who becomes a lay rescuer. Only 1 person in 10 will survive an out-of-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest because there is so little time to start compressions to supply oxygen to the brain. This is where a lay rescuer (bystander) can make the difference between life and death. We will save more lives from SCA only if we have the compassion to step in when it really counts. Just about anybody, young and old, can learn Hands-Only CPR and how to use an AED. I know I have the love and compassion, as well as the skills required to be a lifesaver. Do YOU?
