🎬 New episode of the Man Fam Kid's Cam is live!
This week, our President & CEO Lou Fragoso hands the mic to a very special guest host: 12-year-old Ryder Alvarado, one of our extraordinary NICU graduates.
Ryder spent almost 150 days in our NICU — and every year, he comes back to celebrate his birthday with the team that cared for him. In this episode, he and Lou cover it all: the theme song of his life, why he'd pick time travel as his superpower, and his dream of becoming a firefighter just like his dad.
A singer, musician, and theatre kid with heart to spare, Ryder also shares what he's most grateful for: the doctors and nurses who cared for him and his family.

“I was so nervous about the whole thing, but Dr. Gonzales made me feel calm.”

When 13-year-old Kole suffered a serious knee injury during a football game, his mom, Adria, knew instantly something was wrong. After being transferred for specialized care, Kole was treated by Joseph Gonzales, MD, pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Manning Family Children’s, where he was diagnosed with torn ACL and MCL ligaments and scheduled for surgery. From the very first visit, Adria felt reassured knowing her son was in the hands of an experienced pediatric orthopedic team dedicated to young athletes.

Following successful ACL reconstruction and a structured physical therapy plan, Kole made a remarkable recovery, returning not only to sports but excelling in them. Today, he’s thriving and chasing his dreams, having recently qualified for the Junior Olympics in track and earned All-American status.

At Manning Family Children’s, expert orthopedic care helps kids heal, rebuild confidence, and get back to doing what they love.

One wrestling move changed Tristen Kimball's senior year. Mid-match, he dislocated his knee and tore his ACL—an injury that doesn't heal on its own.

The Houma teen was referred to Dr. Joseph Gonzales at Manning Family Children's, where our pediatric sports medicine team builds every recovery plan around the growing patient. Surgery in June, walking on his own within weeks, and walking on campus at LSU by fall.

"I'm just so happy I was able to get back to being active so quickly."

Robert DiMarco and Debbie Regan from Manning Family Children's recently joined Great Day Louisiana on 4WWL to share guidance on how to discuss puberty with children. DiMarco emphasized starting these conversations early—ideally with kids between ages 8 and 9—before physical changes begin to take place. Regan highlighted that parents can introduce the topic by asking gentle questions, stressing that being open and honest is the most effective approach.

Did you know kids can get kidney stones? 💧 It surprises a lot of parents, but it happens, and the biggest risk factor is simple: children not drinking enough water.

Dr. Ileana Serrano, pediatric nephrologist, and Jennifer Dill, pediatric nurse practitioner at Manning Family Children's, break down what kidney stones are and how to help prevent them all summer long.

Signs to watch for:
- Red-colored urine
- Burning when peeing
- Belly or flank (side) pain
- Nausea or vomiting

How to help prevent them:
💧 Drink up. Kids ages 4–8 need about 7 cups of water a day; kids 9–13 need 8–10 cups (close to 2 liters)
🚽 Check the color. Urine should look pale, like clear toilet-bowl water
🍓 Load up on fresh fruits and veggies. They contain natural "stone blockers" like citrate and potassium
🍧 Make it fun: freeze fruit into ice cubes, make fruit popsicles, let them pick out a fun water bottle, or serve water-rich fruits like watermelon, oranges, and grapes.

Save this for the summer heat, and share it with a fellow parent!
