Tomita Kaiji’s 5 principles of Rei Therapy, 1933.
1. Don’t become attached to one method.
What matters is reaching the goal. Tomita even says other harmless, effective methods (including medicine) should be used when helpful.
2. Don’t take credit for healing.
The practitioner does not “cure.” In Tomita’s view, the practitioner assists the body's natural process to self-repair. Therefore: Success is not a personal triumph. Failure is not a reason for shame.
3. Begin close to home.
Before talking proudly about what you can do for others, bring health and harmony into your own household first.
4. Treat the work as sacred.
Approach treatment earnestly and as a sacred responsibility. Healing work requires sincerity, seriousness and respect.
5. Look for the root, not only the label.
Do not get attached to labels. For Rei Therapy, identifying the affected area and working fundamentally mattered more than naming the disease.
