A normal amount of earwax is a good thing. It’s your ear’s built-in security guard, trapping dust and bacteria before they ever reach your eardrum. But managing it yourself with a cotton swab usually backfires, it just pushes wax deeper and can pack it against the eardrum. Let a professional clear it out properly instead.
And if sounds have started feeling muffled, don’t assume it’s “just wax.” That’s also one of the earliest signs of hearing loss, and untreated hearing loss has been linked to faster cognitive decline. Either way, it’s worth having your ears checked properly.
At Fifth Avenue Hearing, we evaluate the whole picture, wax, hearing, and everything in between, so you get an answer instead of a guess. 👂✨
