💪🐭 Ever wondered why we call it a “muscle”?

The word muscle comes from the Latin musculus, meaning “little mouse.” The ancient Romans reportedly used the term because a flexed muscle moving beneath the skin reminded them of a small mouse moving around.

Pretty weird comparison… but once you see a flexed bicep, you can kind of understand it. 😂

It’s a cool reminder that everyday words often have surprisingly strange origins.

And now you’ll probably never look at your biceps the same way again. 🐭💪

Supplements vs. Real Food

💊 Supplements can be useful—but they aren't a replacement for real food.

It’s easy to look at nutrition as a list of individual nutrients: protein, vitamin D, calcium, omega-3s, fiber, and so on. But whole foods provide much more than the nutrients listed on a supplement label.

🥜 Nuts don't just provide healthy fats.
🍓 Fruits aren't simply sources of sugar and vitamin C.
🥬 Vegetables contain a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and plant compounds that work together as part of the food.

A multivitamin can help fill certain nutritional gaps, and some supplements can be valuable when a person isn't getting enough of a specific nutrient. But taking supplements doesn't automatically compensate for a diet built mostly around highly processed foods.

Think of supplements as what their name suggests: supplements—not substitutes.

Your foundation should still be a varied diet built around whole or minimally processed foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and quality protein sources.

💡 The goal isn't to avoid supplements. It's to avoid depending on them to do the job of a nutritious diet.

Want to stay fuller after lunch? Add some avocado.

Avocados are packed with fiber and healthy monounsaturated fats, two nutrients that can help promote feelings of fullness.

One study found that adults who added half an avocado to their lunch reported lower hunger and greater satisfaction for several hours afterward compared with a lunch without avocado.

That makes avocado an easy addition if you're trying to build meals that keep you satisfied between meals.

🥑 Easy ways to add it:
• Mash it onto whole-grain toast
• Add slices to a sandwich
• Toss it into a salad
• Mix it into a grain bowl
• Blend it into a smoothie for extra creaminess

Avocados also provide nutrients such as potassium, folate, vitamin K, and vitamin E, making them a nutrient-dense addition to many meals.

Just remember: avocado is nutritious, but it is also calorie-dense. Portion size still matters depending on your individual goals.

Small health habits can make a big difference. ❤️

Eating more fiber, drinking enough water, getting adequate vitamin D, and keeping track of your blood pressure are simple ways to stay on top of your health.

A home blood pressure monitor can help you keep track of your readings and notice changes you can discuss with your healthcare provider.

Dog & Heart Health Caption

🐶❤️ Your dog might be doing more for your heart than you realize.

Having a dog isn’t just about companionship. Research has found that dog ownership is associated with several potential health benefits, including more physical activity, better mental well-being, and potentially lower cardiovascular risk.

Those daily walks can add more movement to your routine, while spending time with a pet may help reduce stress and loneliness. Some research has also linked dog ownership with lower blood pressure and other favorable cardiovascular factors.

But there’s an important distinction: owning a dog doesn’t guarantee a healthier heart. Your overall lifestyle, diet, exercise, sleep, and existing health conditions still matter.

So the next time your dog begs you to go outside, maybe grab the leash. 🦮

You could be getting exercise, reducing stress, and spending quality time with your best friend—all at once. ❤️

🐟 Salmon is one of those foods that packs a lot of nutrition into one meal.

It’s naturally rich in omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA. These essential fats play important roles in the body and are associated with cardiovascular and brain health.

Salmon is also an excellent source of high-quality protein, which helps your body build and maintain muscles, tissues, and other important structures. It also provides vitamin B12, a nutrient needed for healthy red blood cells and normal nervous-system function.

The best part? You don’t need complicated recipes to add it to your diet. Try baked or grilled salmon with whole grains and your favorite vegetables for a balanced meal.

💡 Simple tip: Choose salmon more often instead of highly processed meats when you’re looking for a nutrient-dense protein option.

Of course, one food isn’t a magic solution for health. Your overall eating pattern, activity level, sleep, and other lifestyle habits matter too.

Healthy eating doesn't have to cost a fortune. 💰🥗

Affordable foods like canned mackerel, roasted soy nuts, prunes, and unsweetened coconut water can give you important nutrients without relying on expensive health products.

Mackerel provides protein and omega-3 fats, soy nuts provide plant protein and fiber, prunes provide fiber for digestive health, and unsweetened coconut water can help with hydration and potassium.

Your grocery budget and your health can work together. Eat smarter, spend smarter. 💵❤️

Apple Health Caption

🍎 The humble apple deserves more credit than it gets.

Apples are more than just a convenient snack. They provide dietary fiber, particularly when you eat the skin, along with plant compounds that contribute to their antioxidant content.

That fiber can help support healthy digestion and may help you feel fuller between meals. Apples also contain naturally occurring polyphenols, which are antioxidant compounds that help protect cells from oxidative stress.

And while apples contain natural sugar, their fiber and overall nutrient profile make a whole apple a very different choice from highly processed, sugar-heavy snacks and drinks. Choosing the whole fruit also gives you water, vitamins, minerals, and other beneficial plant compounds.

🍎 Simple ways to enjoy them:
• Eat a whole apple as a snack
• Pair it with unsweetened peanut butter for protein and healthy fats
• Add sliced apples to oatmeal or plain yogurt
• Choose the whole fruit instead of apple-flavored sweets or juices

No single food can magically prevent disease or replace a balanced diet. But adding more whole fruits like apples to an overall nutritious eating pattern is a simple step toward better everyday nutrition.

Would you eat an apple every day? 🍎👇

Not all drinks are as harmless as they look. 🥤👀

Sugary sodas, energy drinks, sweetened coffee, and fruit drinks can add a surprising amount of sugar and calories to your day. Drinking them often may increase the risk of weight gain, tooth decay, and type 2 diabetes.

Water is usually the simplest choice for hydration, while unsweetened tea and other low-sugar drinks can be good alternatives.

Before you take another sip, check the label. Your drink can affect your health too. 💧
