𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥? Did you know that when kids are asked to write a paragraph or essay in school, they’re really being asked to use a collection of skills?
This student is using the Braidy® StoryBraid system to organize a story before writing. What looks like a simple storytelling activity is actually building many of the skills needed for success in the classroom.
✨ Skills being developed:
🧠 Sequencing – putting events in the correct order (beginning, middle, end)
💭 Story organization – creating a clear structure before writing
🗣️ Narrative language – telling complete, organized stories
📖 Reading comprehension – understanding what happened and why
🔗 Cause & effect – connecting actions with outcomes
🎯 Main idea & supporting details – knowing what’s important and what supports it
💾 Working memory – holding multiple story elements in mind while speaking
🧩 Executive functioning – planning, organizing, and monitoring ideas
📚 Vocabulary & sentence formulation – choosing descriptive words and complete sentences
✍️ Pre-writing skills – organizing thoughts before putting pencil to paper
When these skills are stronger, writing becomes easier.
Instead of staring at a blank page wondering what to write, children already have a mental roadmap for their ideas.
