Today, we honor the birthday of Chujiro Hayashi, one of the important figures in the history and lineage of Reiki.

A student of Mikao Usui, Hayashi played a significant role in carrying Reiki forward. After his training, he established a Reiki clinic in Tokyo in the mid-1920s, where Reiki treatments became known among members of the court, physicians, and the wider community.

Hayashi is also credited with helping to systematize the hand positions commonly used in Reiki practice today and with making the practice more accessible and easier to teach.

His place in our lineage is especially meaningful: it was through Hayashi that Hawayo Takata encountered Reiki, eventually helping carry the practice beyond Japan and into the West.

Today, we remember Chujiro Hayashi with gratitude for his role in preserving, developing, and passing on the practice that continues through our lineage today.

Today, we honor the birth of Mikao Usui (August 15, 1865 – March 9, 1926), the founder of the Reiki system of healing.

Usui Sensei’s journey was one of deep spiritual inquiry and dedication. His search for a greater understanding of healing eventually led him to Mount Kurama, where, following a 21-day period of fasting and meditation, he experienced the spiritual awakening that became the foundation of his Reiki practice.

He went on to practice and teach Reiki throughout Japan, sharing what he had discovered with students who would carry the tradition forward.

More than a century later, his legacy continues—not only through Reiki as a healing practice, but through its teachings of self-cultivation, compassion, and service to others.

Today, we remember Usui Sensei with gratitude and honor the teachings that have been passed from teacher to student across generations. 🙏
