There are no idle spirits. Every soul is learning, teaching, or healing — whether in flesh or beyond it.

Nothing in the universe is still. Particles move. Waves move. Light moves. And spirit — which is as much a part of the natural world as any of these — moves too. Always.

This is something my tradition has always understood. In Espiritismo, we work with spirits at every stage of development. Some are highly evolved guides. Some are ancestors who still carry unresolved patterns. Some are confused, attached, or struggling. And every single one of them is in motion toward something.

The less developed spirit who disrupts a household can become the reason that family finally seeks spiritual counsel. The ancestor carrying unresolved pain can become the catalyst for a descendant’s healing journey. The confused spirit who shows up in a misa can receive elevation and move forward for the first time in centuries.

Their presence serves a function. Their mistakes become teaching. Their healing becomes part of the collective progression.

The spiritual world is an ecosystem. Every participant has a role. And when you understand that, fear gives way to something more useful: discernment, compassion, and the willingness to do the work of elevation alongside them.

The internet talks a lot about vibration right now. Sound baths. Solfeggio frequencies. 528Hz healing playlists. And I love the science of it — the fact that your body is over seventy percent water, that sound moves five times faster through water than air, that your heart generates an electromagnetic field measurable feet beyond your body. That is real. That is documented.

But here is what gets left out of the conversation.

If everything vibrates — and it does — then your thoughts carry weight. Your words carry weight. Even your silence carries something into the room with you. And for those of us who do spiritual work, who sit across from people in their most vulnerable moments, that weight becomes a responsibility.

This is why practitioners in my tradition seek clarity. We pray before we work. We ground. We cleanse. We still ourselves. Because if I am carrying unresolved noise — fear, ego, distraction, unprocessed grief — that frequency enters the room with me. And the person sitting across from me will feel it, whether they can name it or not.

Clarity is the discipline. Alignment is the practice. And both serve one purpose: making sure that the frequency I bring to the work is in service of progression, for me and for the person I’m reading.

Your ancestors planted in dry seasons, tended the soil when nobody was watching, and trusted the rains would come. That patience, that integrity, that trust — that is the oldest wealth there is.

This week the internet is talking about luck. Four-leaf clovers. Pots of gold. Manifestation hacks.

And then on Friday, the Spring Equinox arrives. For my Taino ancestors, this is the New Year — the rebirth of the cycle, the return of the rains after the long dry season, the moment when everything that was tended in silence finally begins to grow.

I want to offer a different way of thinking about prosperity.

In the Caribbean, in Latin America, in Indigenous and Afro-Caribbean communities, wealth was never about a lucky break. It was about what you cultivated with integrity during the seasons nobody applauded. The Espiritista who served her community for decades. The elder who passed down knowledge without keeping a ledger. The family that planted yuca in dry soil and trusted the earth to remember its promise.

That trust — in the cycle, in the spirits, in the work of your own hands — is a form of prosperity that no market crash can take from you.

Meta-Modern Spiritualism teaches that progression happens across every spectrum of life. Prosperity is one of them. And real prosperity grows the same way the spirit does: through patience, through integrity, and through trust in what you cannot yet see.

The ancestors speak loudest in dreams. That’s why sleep is sacred.

In Espiritismo and across Afro-Caribbean spiritual traditions, the dream state has always been understood as a bridge. When the mind finally gets quiet — when the ego stops performing and the body surrenders — the ancestors have room to come through.

I’ve experienced this my entire life. My dreams have never been just dreams. They are visits. Conversations. Warnings. Instructions. And the traditions I was raised in taught me to take them seriously, to journal them, to bring them to the mesa, to let the elders help me interpret what spirit was saying while my body was resting.

This is something modern culture gets completely wrong. We treat sleep like a productivity issue. Something to optimize or hack. We brag about how little we need. But when you understand that the dream state is where the veil is thinnest — where your Egun, your ancestors, your spirit court can reach you most clearly — sleep becomes ceremony.

And dream working becomes a spiritual discipline.

Meta-Modern Spiritualism honors this. Your dreams are data. They are ancestral communication. They are part of your curriculum. And learning to receive them well is part of the progression.

If your dreams have been vivid lately, pay attention. If an ancestor has been showing up repeatedly, they have something to say. Write it down. Sit with it. Bring it to someone you trust.

The gifted child learns early to carry others. The gifted adult must learn to put them down.

In my community, gifted children are recognized young. The family sees it. The elders see it. And because the gift is real and the need is great, that child starts doing spiritual work long before they have the language or the boundaries to protect themselves while doing it.

I know this because I was that child.

By the time I was twelve, my family and friends had witnessed enough to know the gift was real. By seventeen, I was proficient. By nineteen, I was recognized professionally. And somewhere in all of that acceleration, I absorbed a belief that lives inside a lot of gifted people: if I can feel it, I’m responsible for it.

That belief will run your life if you let it. It will make you the person everyone calls in crisis. The one who holds it together for the whole room. The practitioner who takes on client after client and wonders why they’re exhausted, sick, or spiritually depleted.

Here’s what I’ve learned, from my training in mental health and from thirty years of practice: carrying people is not the same as helping them. Helping requires boundaries. Carrying creates dependency — in them and in you.

Meta-Modern Spiritualism holds that the goal of all spiritual work is to increase someone’s autonomy. The same applies to the practitioner. Your growth requires releasing the role of savior and trusting that other people’s spirits are strong enough to hold their own weight.

Spiritual maturity is measured by what you no longer need.

Let me explain what I mean, because this one can be misread.

I am not talking about needing less community. I am not talking about needing less guidance, less learning, or less connection. Those things grow deeper with maturity, not shallower.

What I am talking about is this:

The need for external validation before you trust your own knowing. The need to collect titles, certifications, and initiations to feel legitimate. The need to perform your spirituality loudly enough for other people to take you seriously. The need for someone else’s permission to walk the path your spirit already chose.

That is what falls away.

In the communities I come from — Espiritismo, Afro-Caribbean spiritual practice — the most respected elders I ever sat with were often the quietest. They had nothing to prove. Their maturity showed up in their steadiness, their discernment, the way they held space without needing the room to know how powerful they were.

They didn’t need to announce it. They just were it.

Meta-Modern Spiritualism teaches that progression increases autonomy. That means the more you grow, the more you trust your own spirit, your own process, your own relationship with the divine — without needing constant external confirmation that you’re doing it right.

That kind of maturity doesn’t shrink your world. It deepens it. You still learn. You still seek. You just do it from a place of wholeness instead of hunger.

The spirits gave freely. The elders shared openly. The tradition continued because generosity was built into its bones.

But let me be clear about what generosity looked like in practice.

In the communities I come from, spiritual work was sustained by reciprocity. The Espiritista opened their home, prepared the mesa, and gave their gift. And the person receiving that gift brought what they could — food for the house, flowers for the altar, ci**rs for the spirits, a plate of something homemade. There was no price list on the door. But there was an understanding: both parties show up with open hands.

That’s the law of exchange. And it kept spiritual communities fed, honored, and whole for generations.

This is what gets lost in the modern conversation about spiritual services. People think it’s either gatekeeping or giving everything away for free. But the traditions of the global south understood something more balanced: generosity is mutual. The practitioner gives their gift. The community sustains the practitioner. The spirits sustain them both.

That reciprocity is what kept the knowledge moving. It’s what kept the doors open. It’s what made it possible for the next generation to learn.

Meta-Modern Spiritualism carries this forward. I offer sliding-scale and pro-bono services because access matters. But I also honor the law of exchange because the tradition taught me that the flow has to move in both directions for it to stay alive.

Generosity sustained the tradition. Reciprocity kept it honest.
