Science with a candy corn twist 🍬 Each liquid in this tower has a different density, so instead of mixing together, they stack in perfect layers, honey on the bottom, oil floating on top.

It’s a colorful, hands-on way to explore density, and a fun fall-themed twist on a classic science experiment.

This is just a taste of the hands-on science our campers get to explore all the time, come see it in action! Link in bio to check out our upcoming camps. 🍂

The coolest Halloween experiment to try with your kids! 🎃🧪

You’ll need:
🎃 2 tablespoons baking soda
🎃 1/2 cup vinegar
🎃 Food coloring (any color!)
🎃 A pumpkin pail, cauldron, or any cup, set on a tray to catch the fizz

What it teaches kids:

This is a real chemical reaction. Vinegar is an acid and baking soda is a base, and when they mix they make carbon dioxide gas. Those gas bubbles are what push the fizz up and out of the pail.

It helps kids practice predicting what will happen, observing what changes, and asking “why?” They also get fine motor practice from measuring and pouring. Try changing one thing, like more vinegar or a different color, and see what happens!

This is the kind of hands on STEM we love at WonderWorkz. Follow along for more ideas to try at home, and tag us if you give it a go! 👻

Ever wonder why leaves turn colors in the fall? 🍁 This experiment reveals the hidden pigments inside leaves that are there all along, chlorophyll just masks them green until autumn lets them shine through.

It’s a beautiful, hands-on way to explore plant science while making the most of the season’s fallen leaves.

This is exactly the kind of hands-on learning our campers do every day at WonderWorkz. Want your kid to experience more of this? Link in bio to explore our camps! 🍂

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Maybe it’s less about what you do, and more about who you are.

Did you know that taking the stage does more than just build confidence? 🎭✨ Memorizing lines for a performance actually strengthens working memory, the very same cognitive skill kids use in math and reading! 📚🔢

Fall just got a lot more explosive 🎃 This seasonal twist on our classic volcano reaction uses the same science, baking soda (a base) + vinegar (an acid) = a fizzy carbon dioxide eruption, but dressed up for autumn.

It’s a fun way to combine seasonal fun with real hands-on chemistry, and honestly, watching it erupt out of a pumpkin never gets old.

This is just one example of the hands-on STEM our campers explore every day at WonderWorkz. Want in on the fun? Link in bio to check out our camps! 🍂

What a day at The Edible Lab! 🧈 From making their own edible slime to creating magnets, our campers brought the energy (and a little mess) all day long.

So much fun seeing their faces light up with every new creation. Can’t wait for the next one!

📚 STEM Book Rec of the Month: Elara, STEM Girl by Leela Ayyar | Ages 4–8

Elara loves all things STEM, from baking soda volcanoes and popsicle-stick catapults to robotics club! 🤖🔬
But Elara notices something: she’s often the only girl in the room. So she sets out to show her friends that STEM can be just as fun as tea parties, playing princess, or anything else they love. 💕

We love that this story reminds kids that they don’t have to choose between being “girly” and being a STEM kid. You can be a princess and a scientist, a ballerina and a robotics expert. ✨
Even better, the book includes quotes and short biographies of real women in STEM, giving young readers inspiring role models to learn about along the way.

📖 Save this one for your next library trip!

STEM Book Rec is a new monthly series from WonderWorkz highlighting books that make science, technology, engineering & math fun for kids. 💡
