Ever wondered why blood collection tubes come in different colors?
Let’s start with the lavender top tube - one of the most commonly used in the lab.

💜 What’s inside?
It contains EDTA, an anticoagulant that prevents blood from clotting and helps preserve blood cells.

🩸 Commonly used for:
• Complete Blood Count (CBC)
• Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c)
• Blood typing
• Many hematology tests

Because it keeps blood cells intact, the lavender tube is essential for accurate cell analysis.

What Does “Hard Stick” Really Mean?

Have you ever been told you have “difficult veins” or that you’re a “hard stick”?
It doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with your veins.
Some blood draws are simply more challenging because of:
• veins that are small or deep
• veins that move (“rolling veins”)
• dehydration
• scar tissue from previous blood draws or IVs
• certain medical conditions or medications

At YanaPhleb, our experienced phlebotomists use careful techniques, patience, and the right equipment to make your blood draw as comfortable as possible.

Helena has a medical background and years of laboratory experience in both the United States and abroad. Her knowledge, precision, and caring approach help every patient feel comfortable and confident.
She has extensive experience working with children, patients with difficult veins, hard sticks, and individuals with special needs. Many of you have already met Helena during your home visits, and we’re always grateful to receive such wonderful feedback about her professionalism, kindness, and gentle care.
