MYTH: Enteric hyperoxaluria is the same as primary hyperoxaluria.

FACT: Enteric hyperoxaluria (EH) is different from primary hyperoxaluria (PH). EH develops when certain digestive conditions or surgeries cause the body to absorb too much oxalate from food, while PH is caused by inherited genetic changes.

Our Professional Hyperoxaluria Workshop in Prague may be over, but the global community it brought together, representing 26 countries, continues to move forward as one. The ideas shared, collaborations formed, and friendships strengthened at the meeting will have an impact far beyond those two days in June.

A sincere thank you to our Workshop co-chairs, Yaacov Frishberg, MD, and Kyle D. Wood, MD, MBA, as well as our Steering Committee, speakers, moderators, abstract presenters, industry partners, advocates and every attendee who made this workshop such a tremendous success. Rare can feel lonely.

Because PH is ultra-rare, you may spend a lot of time explaining what it is. If you're tired of educating people (or being misunderstood), you're not alone.

I wish people understood that PH is more than kidney stones it's a lifelong, whole-body condition that can affect the kidneys, other organs, and daily life in ways most people never see.
