The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages (including doing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). CPR was least likely for Black and Hispanic adults in a less personal setting, such as on the street or in a public transportation center, according to findings presented Friday at the American Heart Association’s Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Scientific Sessions in Reston, Virginia. Results improved at home or in public settings where people might know the person, such as the workplace, though such CPR still was more likely for white people in the study.

Pediatric CA requiring resuscitation with chest compression and/or defibrillation can be classified as a pulseless event or as a non-pulseless event such as bradycardia leading to poor perfusion [5].

Training in Basic Life Support provides the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to life-threatening cardiac and breathing emergencies in adult and pediatric patients. First Aid teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of physical injuries such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, and back injuries, as well as heat and cold related emergencies.
