Postpartum is often treated like a 6-week phase that ends the moment your doctor clears you for exercise. But biologically, the toll of growing, birthing, and feeding a human being can last for years.

If you are a mother of a toddler (or a kindergartener) and you are struggling with crushing fatigue, brain fog, thinning hair, or lingering anxiety... you are not "failing at mom life." You might be deeply depleted.

📉 During pregnancy, your baby acts like a biological vacuum, pulling essential nutrients directly from your reserves to build their brain, bones, and nervous system. If you don't aggressively replenish those reserves after birth, you operate at a deficit for years.

🔍 The Missing Minerals:
Zinc & B12: Critical for mental clarity and emotional regulation.
Magnesium: Without it, your nervous system stays stuck in fight-or-flight, driving chronic anxiety.
Iron/Ferritin: A leading cause of that heavy, bone-deep exhaustion.

You cannot pour from an empty cup, especially if your cup has had a leak in it for five years.

If you are wondering which specific supplement brands I recommend for postpartum fatigue, you can find my curated list on fullscript: https://us.fullscript.com/u/plans/TXVsdGlQYXRpZW50UGxhbi0xMTk4NTk=

Struggling with hormonal imbalance? Meet your new daily habit: Seed Cycling. 🌱🍯

If you are looking for a gentle, food-as-medicine approach to balancing your shifting hormones, it is time to try Seed Cycling.

This practice is incredibly simple: you rotate specific seeds into your diet based on the two main phases of your menstrual cycle to support your body's natural production and clearance of estrogen and progesterone.

🥄 Here is your daily 2-tablespoon routine:

🟢 DAYS 1–14: The Follicular Phase

1 tbsp ground Flax + 1 tbsp ground Pumpkin seeds.

Flax contains lignans that bind to excess estrogen to help your body flush it out, while pumpkin seeds are rich in zinc to prep your follicles for a healthy ovulation.

🟡 DAYS 15–28: The Luteal Phase

1 tbsp ground Sesame + 1 tbsp ground Sunflower seeds.

Sesame seeds block excess estrogen from taking over, and sunflower seeds provide a massive dose of Vitamin E to boost your progesterone production (the hormone that keeps you calm and supports a healthy uterine lining).

💡 A Naturopathic Tip: Toss your seeds into smoothies, sprinkle them over oatmeal, or mix them into a salad. Consistency is the secret ingredient to hormonal harmony.

Let’s talk about egg quality and aging—without the panic and pressure. 🕰️🥚

When you are trying to conceive in your late 30s or 40s, the conversation often revolves heavily around the "biological clock" and a declining number of eggs. But here is the empowering biological truth that often gets left out: Quantity is not the same as Quality.

While we cannot change the number of eggs you have, we have a profound ability to influence the quality of the eggs you are recruiting.

By lowering oxidative stress, supporting your mitochondria (the battery packs of your cells), and balancing your hormones, you can actively improve the cellular health of your eggs before ovulation.

🌿 However, You don't have to navigate this timeline with guesswork. In my comprehensive e-course, Fertility in Your 40s, we dedicate an entire module to Egg Quality & Preconception Planning.

While it was created to address the unique biological considerations of women in their late 30s and 40s, this evidence-based roadmap is designed to help you Optimize Your Fertility at Any Age.

It includes 9 video modules, guided workbooks, and practitioner-curated supplement lists to help you build an empowered preconception plan—whether you are trying naturally or prepping for IVF.

Did you know preeclampsia is about more than just high blood pressure? 🤰🩺

Pregnancy is a profound biological marathon, and your body is constantly adjusting to support both you and your baby. Sometimes, this adjustment involves sudden changes in blood pressure, leading to a condition called Preeclampsia.

While it can sound intimidating, understanding the signs empowers you to advocate for your prenatal health.
Preeclampsia is essentially a shift in how your blood vessels regulate pressure, which impacts blood flow to both the mother and the placenta.

These Key signs is signals from your body asking for immediate attention:

In functional medicine, we focus on optimizing your antioxidant status, lowering systemic inflammation, and supporting robust placental development right from the first trimester. Your body is incredibly capable, and supporting your vascular health is a key pillar of a safe, empowering pregnancy.

When you hit your late 30s and 40s, your metabolism doesn't just mysteriously "break." But your body does go through a massive biological shift.

As estrogen begins to fluctuate and decline during perimenopause, we lose the hormone that naturally helps us maintain muscle mass and insulin sensitivity. This leads to Sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss).

Why Muscle is your "Longevity Currency":
Muscle isn't just for bodybuilders. It is an active endocrine organ.
🔥 It dictates your metabolic rate (how many calories you burn at rest).
🩸 It acts like a sponge for sugar in your bloodstream, preventing insulin resistance.
🦴 It pulls on your bones, stimulating bone density and preventing osteoporosis.

The Fix? Stop undereating protein.
To trigger muscle protein synthesis after 40, your body needs a higher threshold of amino acids than it did in your 20s.

The Simplicity Target: Aim for 30 grams of protein per meal.
What does 30 grams actually look like?
🍳 3 whole eggs + 1/2 cup cottage cheese
🍗 A palm-sized piece of chicken or salmon
🥣 1 cup of Greek yogurt + 3 tbsp h**p seeds

Aging vibrantly isn't about restriction; it is about building a strong foundation. When you prioritize protein, you stabilize your mood, balance your shifting hormones, and build the physical resilience you need for the next half of your life.

Trying to conceive? Let’s talk about the "Anchor Hormone" that holds everything together. ⚓🌱

When we talk about fertility, estrogen usually steals the spotlight. But if you are trying to conceive, or if you have experienced early pregnancy loss, we need to talk about Progesterone.

Think of your uterus like a garden. Estrogen is responsible for growing the soil (the uterine lining). But Progesterone is the gardener that stabilizes that soil, making it rich, thick, and sticky enough for a fertilized egg (the seed) to actually implant and grow.

Why is it the "Anchor"?
Once an egg is fertilized, your body must produce a strong, sustained surge of progesterone to tell your uterus, "Do not shed this lining!" If your progesterone levels drop too low, the lining breaks down, which can lead to early miscarriage.

Signs of Low Progesterone:
📉 Spotting days before your period actually starts.
📉 A short luteal phase (less than 11 days between ovulation and your period).
📉 PMS symptoms like intense anxiety, sore breasts, or sleep disruptions.

You shouldn't have to guess if your levels are high enough. We test progesterone at the right time (usually 7 days post-ovulation, not just a random day in your cycle). From there, we use targeted herbal medicine, nutrients (like Vitamin C and B6 to support the corpus luteum), or bio-identical progesterone to anchor your pregnancy safely.

We’ve all heard "eat the rainbow," but in functional medicine, this isn’t just a cute saying—it’s a biological necessity.

The vibrant colors in your food aren't just for show. They are created by phytonutrients—powerful plant compounds that act as direct instructions for your cells, telling them how to detoxify, repair, and lower inflammation.

If your plate is constantly beige, brown, or white, your cells are missing out on vital information. Here is your cheat sheet to the 5 colors:

🍅 RED (Lycopene & Astaxanthin):
Found in: Tomatoes, watermelon, red bell peppers, strawberries.
The Job: Cellular protection, heart health, and combating oxidative stress.

🥕 ORANGE/YELLOW (Beta-Carotene & Vitamin C):
Found in: Sweet potatoes, carrots, citrus, squash.
The Job: Hormone health, immune system support, and glowing skin.

🥦 GREEN (Chlorophyll & Glucosinolates):
Found in: Spinach, broccoli, kale, asparagus.
The Job: Liver detoxification, methylation, and clearing excess hormones (like estrogen!).

🫐 BLUE/PURPLE (Anthocyanins):
Found in: Blueberries, blackberries, purple cabbage, eggplant.
The Job: Brain health, memory support, and longevity.

🧄 WHITE/BROWN (Allicin & Lignans):
Found in: Garlic, onions, mushrooms, cauliflower.
The Job: Immune defense and feeding your good gut bacteria.

Don't overcomplicate it. You don't need a perfectly curated salad. Just aim to check off all 5 colors by the end of the day. A berry smoothie in the morning, a sweet potato at lunch, and a side of broccoli with dinner, and you are almost there!

It’s time to talk about the most taboo (and most important) daily health check.🚽

We know, we know. Nobody wants to talk about their p**p. But in functional medicine, your stool is one of the most critical pieces of diagnostic information we have.

Think of your bowel movements as a daily report card from your gastrointestinal tract. They tell us about your transit time, your hydration, your stress levels, and the state of your microbiome.

We don't settle for "just take laxative" or "just take an anti-diarrhea pill." If your daily report card is constantly showing us pebbles or liquid, we dig deeper to find the root cause—whether that is SIBO, Leaky Gut, or a nervous system imbalance.

Tired of hearing "Just use a planner!"? 🙄 Let’s talk about why standard ADHD hacks are failing you.

The internet is flooded with "Life Hacks for ADHD." Pomodoro timers, bullet journals, color-coded calendars, and endless alarm systems.

You try them for three days, get overwhelmed, abandon them, and then feel like a failure. Sound familiar?

In this clip, Myself , Dr. Ivy Branin and Neurofeedback Trainer Alexis Pace explain why one-size-fits-all advice usually falls flat for the neurodivergent brain.

Here is the reality: There are multiple types of ADHD, and every single brain map is completely unique. What stimulates and focuses a hyperactive brain might completely paralyze and overwhelm an inattentive brain.

When a "hack" doesn't work, it is not because you lack willpower. It is simply because that specific tool isn't speaking the right language to your nervous system.

Instead of forcing your brain to adapt to the tools, it is time to find tools (like neurofeedback and targeted holistic support) that adapt to your brain.
