Doctors Council SEIU

Doctors Council SEIU Doctors Council: A United Voice for Doctors, Our Patients, & the Communities We Serve. It’s a role we take seriously, and one we’re proud of.

We are the Doctors Council - the country's largest and oldest union of attending physicians. We believe in quality, affordable, and safe health care as a basic human right and social good, accessible to all, regardless of insurance, economic status, ability to pay, race, ethnicity, citizenship or residency status, language spoken, or diagnosis. In a time when health care is rapidly transforming, i

t is our mission to ensure that the voices of frontline doctors and our patients are heard and respected when decisions about health care delivery are made. As advocates for our patients, we reach out into the communities where we work to enhance the doctor-patient relationship and ensure that our patients’ voices are heard, and that our patients are involved in their care decisions. Increasingly, we serve as advocates on behalf of all the people whose lives we touch when they need care. We work to ensure equal and timely access to patient care services in our communities, and work to remove barriers to or disparities in health care, especially in low-income, medically underserved, immigrant, and communities of color. In our traditional role as a doctors' union, we work to win contracts that recognize the valuable work of our members, improve the patient care experience, and create an environment where doctors and patients are treated with dignity and respect.

From Doctors Council Member Dr. Jasmeet Sandhu, “I find it deeply fulfilling to work in a public safety-net hospital and believe in New York City Health + Hospitals’ mission to provide high-quality healthcare to all New Yorkers, regardless of their immigration status or ability to pay for services. But brutal federal funding cuts will intensify chronic understaffing and under-resourcing in our hospitals”

We see every day how underfunding harms our patients. We believe tax fairness is essential to protect care and the services our communities rely on. We support raising revenue from the wealthiest individuals and most profitable corporations to stabilize our public health system and invest in our communities. New York must choose patients and working families over corporate profits and deliver a budget that reflects dignity, equity, and care for all. and do the the right thing and tax the rich!

Doctors Council, SEIU members at Allina Health have ratified their first union contract, marking a historic win achieved through the collective hard work, unity, and determination of providers standing together for change.

This agreement strengthens physician voice in decisions that impact patient care and showing what’s possible when healthcare workers stand united for their patients and their profession.

Nearly 40 Massachusetts lawmakers are standing with primary care doctors, calling on Mass General Brigham to recognize their union and start bargaining.

When frontline physicians speak out about burnout, access, and patient care, leadership must listen.

MGB must respect the vote, recognize the union, and invest in primary care for our patients and our communities.
