As National Nurses Week comes to a close, I’m reflecting on the unwavering service, compassion, and dedication that nurses across our nation demonstrate every single day. From the womb to the tomb, nurses are there through life’s most vulnerable and meaningful moments.

There is truly no greater calling than serving my community while helping shape the next generation of Nurses and Nurse Practitioners. It is both a privilege and an honor to carry the title of “Nurse.” Thank you, Lord, for choosing me and trusting me to serve others with purpose and compassion. 🙏🏾

I also want to celebrate some incredible recent milestones at PCHS:

🌟 The inaugural graduation of our first PBSN undergraduate nursing cohort. May the nursing pledge and oath they took continue to guide them with integrity, compassion, and excellence throughout every path they pursue. CONGRATULATIONS to the class of 2026! 👏🏾

⭐️ A memorable Ribbon Cutting Ceremony led by our phenomenal nurse leader, Dr. Daphne Lysius, whose vision, leadership, and dedication continue to inspire us all.

Nursing is a sacrifice. It comes with both triumphs and challenges, but if given the choice, I would choose this profession over and over again.

Over 4 million nurses strong 💪🏾 🙌🏾 and still making a difference every day. 💜

Vacation was in FULL EFFECT. TRINIDAD 🇹🇹 owes me nothing!! What an incredible experience at Carnival 2026 with !! The vibes and energy was on 1000 🔥🔥. Tribe Costume Designer did not miss a beat and made us all Beautiful in our own ways.
I thoroughly enjoyed all the festivities, playing mas, the delicious food, and fete’n with people from around the world. Watching perform was EPIC!! Global King of Soca who brought the 🔥 energy and kept us dancing until we couldn’t feel our legs. Trinidad Carnival represents freedom, resistance, identity, and unity. The experience of Carnival is liberating and the energy is nonstop, a beautiful cultural celebration.

It is no easy feat to coordinate a Tribe of women for an international trip as well as the details for orders, costumes, events, etc. This trip was one of the BEST experiences of my life. Till we meet again……

I had a great time engaging in policy advocacy alongside my Nurse colleagues and friends. We had college and high school students join us in the legislative sessions. We also wore red in solidarity for Go Red for Women’s Heart Health. Our legislative session with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s staff was very impactful. Each year on the first Thursday of February NBNA has our Day on Capitol Hill event that includes a policy conference and meetings with our legislators to advocate for health equity in our communities. This year the following Health Equity topics we focused on were:
* nursing workforce development and diversity
* Black maternal health
* Mental health
* equity and safety in AI integration
* gun violence
* environmental impact in black communities

Advocacy does not stop at the Hill and we continue this collaboration with our elected officials throughout the year. We look forward to you joining us in 2027 for the next day on Capitol Hill. To be recognized as a 2025 Fellow in TWO Nursing Academies for your equity-driven work is a true testament to your impact 👏🏾

I’m beyond grateful that we are walking this journey together as maternal health change agents in our communities, advocating, disrupting systems, and fighting relentlessly for health equity for Black women and birthing people. We are the Cavalry we’ve been waiting for. The time is now, and the marathon continues…

Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader whose courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to justice continue to guide us through generations. Dr. King reminded us that the fight for equality is not only about race, but about dignity, fairness, and the moral responsibility we have to one another. His call for justice was deeply rooted in action while challenging unjust systems, uplifting the marginalized, and demanding that humanity do better.

In today’s sociopolitical climate, Dr. King’s words feel as urgent as ever. Across the country, Nurses are standing together in strikes for fair and equitable work practices, safe staffing, and wages that reflect the value of their labor and the care they provide. Their voices echo Dr. King’s belief that “all labor has dignity” and that justice in the workplace is inseparable from justice in society. Advocating for humane conditions, equity, and respect is not disruption, it is progress.

As we reflect today, may we not only remember Dr. King’s dream, but recommit ourselves to living it. May we continue to challenge inequality, support those who courageously stand for fairness, and build systems rooted in compassion and justice. Thank you, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., for your sacrifice, your vision, and your enduring legacy. Your light remains eternal, guiding us forward.
