Innovative Transpalpebral Tonometry Technology Highlights a Corneal-Independent Approach to Intraocular Pressure Measurement
NEW ORLEANS, LA | October 12, 2026 β The Diaton Tonometer, an innovative ophthalmic device designed to measure intraocular pressure (IOP) through the upper eyelid over the sclera, is being featured in connection with the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) 2026 Annual Meeting, taking place October 9β12 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Bringing together ophthalmologists, researchers, clinicians, and medical technology innovators from around the world, AAO 2026 provides an important opportunity to explore advances in eye care, diagnostic technologies, and clinical practice.
Diaton introduces a fundamentally different approach to tonometry by allowing clinicians to measure IOP without direct contact with the cornea.
THINK BEYOND THE CORNEA.β’
Conventional tonometry methods, including Goldmann applanation tonometry, rely on interaction with the cornea. Their measurements can be affected by corneal thickness, curvature, biomechanical properties, previous refractive surgery, and certain corneal abnormalities.
Diaton takes the cornea out of the measurement equation.
Using transpalpebral tonometry, Diaton obtains IOP measurements through the upper eyelid over the sclera, offering clinicians an additional approach to assessing eye pressure when corneal characteristics may complicate conventional measurements.
This distinction may be particularly valuable in patients with prior LASIK or other refractive procedures, keratoconus, corneal scarring, edema, and other conditions affecting the cornea.
