The riper the avocado, the richer the rewards, and most people are eating them at the wrong stage.

Most of us grab an avocado, squeeze it once, and either eat it or toss it. But there are actually 4 distinct ripeness stages, and each one has a genuinely different nutritional profile. That's not marketing. That's just how this fruit works.

An underripe avocado, still bright green and firm, is higher in fiber and vitamin C, and lower in fat. It's not the creamiest bite, but if you're after crunch and a lighter feel, it holds up beautifully sliced into a salad.

The slightly ripe stage is where things start to get interesting. Your avocado is firming up its good monounsaturated fats, becoming potassium rich, and developing that creamier texture most people associate with the fruit at its best.

This is the stage most people aim for, and honestly, it's worth the wait.

A fully ripe avocado delivers maximum healthy fats, high vitamin E, and rich antioxidants. The skin is brown-green and pebbled. Press it gently and it gives just slightly. That's your window.

Overripe doesn't mean ruined. A very dark, soft avocado actually hits its highest antioxidant level, gets easier to digest, and is genuinely best for mashing into guacamole or spreading on toast. 🥑

One tip worth keeping: soft and dark is overripe. Moldy or rotten is something else entirely, and you'll know the difference the moment you open it.
