Many of our clients miss out on a core rite of passage: high school prom. So each year, our NYC team takes matters into their own hands by hosting The Dorm Prom, a night where clients can come dressed to impress, free to express who they are. They share dinner, make music requests, dance, and create unforgettable memories ✨🕺💃🪩

What will it take to prepare young adults for the future ahead? A note from our CEO and Founder, John McGeehan.

Our answer is not found in something new or revolutionary, but in a strengthened focus on the fundamental social-emotional skills that all sustained outcomes are built upon:

⭐️Emotional self-awareness
⭐️Agency in self-expression
⭐️Interpersonal functioning skills
⭐️Motivated problem-solving
⭐️The capacity to manage impulses and tolerate distress

Join us now as we explore the full impact of how we can help a new generation build the emotional capacities they need to thrive in the world ahead.

“Exploring what I loved sparked something in me I never even knew was there! Now I have the confidence to pursue it.”

In honor of Mental Health and Trauma Awareness Month we’re highlighting Tanya, an aspiring entrepreneur and new clinical case study, showcasing what’s possible when young adults develop the fundamental skills they need to thrive, long term.

Tanya came to The Dorm as a self-proclaimed “high achiever” quietly dealing with trauma and burnout but determined to finish her graduate program. Through weekly CPT therapy and executive function coaching, Tanya built the skills she needed to graduate alongside her friends and start a new business all on her own.

Today, she remains an active part of the alumni community and serves as an alumni mentor, believing in the power of “giving back” all she was given through care at The Dorm.

Heading off to college is an exciting time that comes with freedom — and a lot of responsibility!

In your new dorm room, no one’s helping you with your laundry, waking you up, or making sure you’ve eaten. You’re fully in charge, and that shift can take some time getting used to.

For many students, especially those who are neurodivergent, living independently for the first time can place real demands on executive function.

Start building these 4 essential life skills now for a smoother transition into college. ✨

“Many clients feel like they’re a square peg in a round hole. We can help them make sense of their experience and build lives that work for their needs.” ✨

In honor of Neurodiversity Awareness Month, we’re handing the mic to our therapist, Allie Neuman, MHC-LP, to share an inside look at the groups and programs that support the 50%+ of our young adult clients who identify as neurodiverse, and what meaningful representation looks like in practice.

Join Allie as she offers a glimpse of her work supporting neurodiverse clients, her city, and what drives her to show up every day. 💜

High school graduation is more than a new academic chapter, it’s someone’s first step into young adulthood. That’s a major transition – and one of life’s most significant.

For the first time, they’re building independence, forming new relationships, and discovering who they are — all outside the familiarity of home.

In this brand new College Guide for High School Graduates, experts at The Dorm share guidance based on 17+ years of insight helping young adults and their families navigate this next chapter.
