Sometimes my kids ask me for something, and I sigh.
And I’ve started wondering what they hear in that sigh.

Maybe I’m busy or distracted or in the middle of something and don’t really want to be interrupted.

But what do they hear?

You’re bothering me.
This is inconvenient.
I don’t have time for you right now.

And that’s not the message I want my kids to hear or carry with them.

The other day, I was listening to Life Wisdom- By Words pf Taoism #57, “Why Receiving Feels So Hard,” and something in that conversation about how our relationship with praise and receiving can be shaped by what we learned growing up got me thinking about this.

What am I teaching our kids about their value? Not just through what I say, but through how I/we respond when they need us?

I want my kids to know that asking for help isn’t a burden.

That their needs matter.

That they are worth listening to.

Because I don’t just want them to feel comfortable coming to me when they’re 9 or 11.

But also I want them to feel comfortable coming to me when they’re 19… 29… or 39.

Right now I’m working on this:

➡️Becoming more aware of the messages I’m sending, especially the ones I never actually say.

➡️When they ask for help to stay calm, breath and remember to be excited I get to help them.

➡️And to slow down enough to make our kids feel heard.

Sometimes life doesn’t leave much room for the gym—or much of anything else.

Kids starting school. Moving to Sweden. A whole lot of transition. And honestly, I’ve been overwhelmed, stressed, tired, and I haven’t been to the gym in about a week and a half.

I’m trying to remind myself not to be too hard on myself. Just do my best, stay positive, and keep moving forward.

One day at a time. 💪

We had a bit of a Rocky start this morning getting the kids out the door to school. We made it, but I got them there about 20 minutes late on day on day four of a new school , a new country
I’m gonna call that a win!!
And then I had to dash home grab a few things and head back downtown to a government building, to an appointment to move things along with my residency.
But then I made sure to take a little time for me enjoying the beautiful city, the river, the lake, a ride home filing my cup.

Some days it’s incredibly difficult to stay calm with our kiddos. The devices are such a struggle. We moved to Sweden and my son and I both don’t really have any any friends yet. So I can understand how challenging it can be without your buddies. Everything is new and different. Even though most people can speak English they’re more comfortable when giving a chance to speak their native time so I’m surrounded by gibberish so is he he and his sister are going start a new Swedish school in a little over a week in a different language. So I get it. But dang is this parenting thing hard sometimes.
