Summer camp registration is open!

First State Community Action Agency’s FREE Summer Camp will run from June 29 through July 30 for children ages 5–12.

This summer, campers will enjoy active play, creative arts, hands-on science, exciting field trips, and a safe place to learn, grow, and have fun.

Camp locations and times:

Georgetown: 8 AM–1 PM
Burton Village: 10 AM–1 PM
Bridgeville: 9 AM–12 PM
Slaughter Neck: 1 PM–4 PM

Spots may be limited, so families are encouraged to register early.

Firm Foundation Recovery will host a Day of Fun, a Future of Hope from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at First Baptist Church of Delaware (901 E. Basin Road, New Castle). All are welcome for an afternoon featuring bounce houses, games and activities, live music, food and treats, and community vendors. A donation of $10 is asked for those 15 and older who are able to give.

This is how we grow the community of recovery in Delaware.

Because of the stark increase of medetomidine, a veterinary tranquilizer, in Delaware's street drug suppply, atTAcK addiction's Resource Center is now carrying medetomidine test strips and instructions on how to use them. We also added the test strips to our Narcan kits.

The Delaware Overdose Response Center sent an alert earlier this year that the substance has largely replaced xylazine in Delaware's street drug supply. While it doesn't cause the skin infections that xylazine does, it can:

* Slow a person's heart rate.
* Cause difficulty breathing.
* Lower blood pressure.
* Cause significant sedation

If you see someone experiencing difficulties, call 911. Administer naloxone if you have it and start CPR until paramedics arrive. Under Delaware's 911/Good Samaritan Law, neither the person calling 911 nor the person in medical distress can be arrested, charged or prosecuted for a low-level drug crime.
