🧬 What does Vitamin B1 actually have to do with cellular energy?

Quite a bit.

Vitamin B1—thiamine—is converted into an active coenzyme form called TPP (thiamine pyrophosphate).

TPP is required by several enzymes involved in metabolism.

One important example is pyruvate dehydrogenase, which helps connect glucose metabolism to the citric acid cycle:

🍞 Glucose → Pyruvate → Acetyl-CoA → ⚡ Cellular energy pathways

B1 also participates in other reactions involving carbohydrate and amino-acid metabolism and is important for normal nervous-system function.

So B1 doesn’t “give” you energy like a stimulant.

⚙️ It helps your metabolic machinery do its job.

🚨 YOU CAN HAVE GLUCOSE… AND YOUR CELLS STILL NEED THIS VITAMIN TO PROCESS IT. 🤯

It’s:

⚡ VITAMIN B1 — THIAMINE

Your body converts B1 into:

🔥 TPP

And TPP helps important metabolic enzymes work.

So B1 isn’t some stimulant that magically “gives you energy.”

⚙️ IT HELPS ENABLE ENERGY METABOLISM.

Tiny vitamin. Serious biochemistry. 🧬

⚡ Your body can have glucose available… but it still needs Vitamin B1 to properly process it through key energy pathways.

Meet THIAMINE — Vitamin B1.

Inside your cells, B1 is converted into an active coenzyme form called:

⚙️ TPP — Thiamine Pyrophosphate

TPP is required by important metabolic enzymes—including pyruvate dehydrogenase.

The pathway looks something like this:

🍞 Glucose

B1 isn’t a stimulant.

It helps enable the metabolic machinery your cells use to process nutrients.

🔬 How can something your body needs in MICROGRAMS still be essential?

Meet molybdenum.

Molybdenum is an essential trace mineral used to form the molybdenum cofactor, which allows several important enzymes to function.

One is sulfite oxidase, which helps convert sulfite into sulfate during the metabolism of sulfur-containing compounds.

Another, xanthine oxidoreductase, participates in purine metabolism—a process that ultimately contributes to the formation of uric acid.

And you only need tiny amounts of this mineral.

Food sources include:

🫘 Beans & lentils
🌾 Whole grains
🌰 Nuts

Deficiency is extremely rare in healthy people eating a normal diet, so this isn’t about chasing another supplement.

It’s about understanding how incredibly precise human biology can be.

⚡ The Essentials — Episode 29: Molybdenum

👇 Had you ever heard of molybdenum before today? Comment “MO” and follow NeuroVolt for Episode 30.

🤯 Your body needs a METAL you’ve probably never even thought about.

It’s called MOLYBDENUM — Mo.

And here’s the crazy part…

Your body only needs it in tiny microgram amounts, but it helps enable important enzyme chemistry.

⚙️ Molybdenum helps form the molybdenum cofactor, which is used by enzymes involved in processes including:

🧪 Sulfite → sulfate conversion
🧬 Purine metabolism
⚙️ Processing certain compounds in the body

One example is sulfite oxidase, an enzyme involved in sulfur metabolism.

And despite being essential, true molybdenum deficiency is extremely rare in healthy people eating a varied diet.

🫘 Beans
🌾 Whole grains
🌰 Nuts
🫘 Lentils

Sometimes the nutrients we need in the smallest amounts perform surprisingly important jobs.

🧂 When someone says “electrolytes,” what comes to mind? Sodium? Potassium?

There’s another major player that deserves some attention:

Chloride.

Chloride is an essential electrolyte and the major negatively charged ion in the fluid outside your cells.

It plays important roles in:

💧 Fluid balance
⚡ Electrical neutrality
⚖️ Acid-base balance

And here’s the connection many people don’t realize:

Your stomach contains hydrochloric acid—HCl, which includes chloride.

You also consume sodium and chloride together every day as:

🧂 NaCl — sodium chloride — table salt.

Sodium. Potassium. Chloride.

They’re part of an interconnected electrolyte system.

⚡ The Essentials — Episode 28: Chloride

👇 Did you already know this about chloride? Comment “CL” and follow NeuroVolt for Episode 29.

⚡ You know sodium. You know potassium. But there’s another major electrolyte most people forget about…

CHLORIDE. Cl⁻

And here’s where it gets interesting. 👀

Your stomach acid is hydrochloric acid—HCl.

That’s hydrogen + chloride. 🤯

But chloride does much more than participate in stomach acid. This essential electrolyte is involved in:

💧 Fluid balance
⚡ Electrical neutrality
⚖️ Acid-base balance
🧂 Electrolyte balance

And one of the most common ways you consume it?

NaCl = sodium chloride = table salt.

Electrolytes don’t work alone. Your body works as a system.

⚡ The Essentials — Episode 28: Chloride

👇 Did you know chloride was an essential electrolyte? Comment “CL” below and follow for Episode 29.
