From Your Friendly Pharmacist…

Wondering why your prescription suddenly costs more…or less?

If you’ve ever picked up the same medication and noticed a different copay than last month, you’re not alone.

There are many reasons this can happen. Your cost may change because you’ve met (or haven’t met) your deductible, you’ve entered a different phase of your insurance coverage, your insurance plan updated its formulary, or your plan offers a lower cost for a 90-day supply instead of a 30-day supply.

Insurance can be complicated, and every plan is different.

My biggest piece of advice? If something doesn’t seem right, ask before you leave the pharmacy.

Your pharmacist and pharmacy team work with insurance every day and can often help explain what changed, identify potential savings opportunities, or point you in the right direction. And if the answer ultimately lies with your insurance company, they can help you understand what questions to ask.

Healthcare is complicated enough. Understanding your medications, and what they cost, shouldn’t have to be. 💙

Sometimes, a simple conversation is all it takes.

💙 Monday Service Spotlight 💙

Could you be due for colorectal cancer screening?

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when it’s detected early.

If you’re 45 or older, it may be time to start screening and for many people, that doesn’t mean starting with a colonoscopy.

Here are a few things many people don’t know:

➡️ Most average-risk adults should begin screening at age 45.

➡️ Many screening options can be completed from the comfort of home.

➡️ Early detection dramatically improves treatment options and outcomes.

At Medicinlogic, I help patients understand their screening options, determine whether they’re eligible for an at-home screening test, and provide FREE colorectal cancer screening kits to qualifying adults.

Not sure where to start? That’s exactly what I’m here for.

Because prevention shouldn’t be complicated and understanding your options is the first step toward protecting your health.

💙 Book your FREE Colorectal Cancer Screening Consultation to learn about your screening options and find out if you qualify for a FREE at-home screening kit.

From Your Friendly Pharmacist…

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is:

“My labs were normal, so everything must be fine.”

Here’s the thing…

“Normal” doesn’t always mean optimal.
And “Abnormal” doesn’t always mean something is wrong.

Lab values are just one piece of the puzzle.

For example:
☀️ Your vitamin D may technically be “in range,” but still not be at a level that supports your overall health.
🩸 A slightly elevated lab value may simply reflect hydration, recent exercise, medications, or your unique baseline, not necessarily disease.

That’s why I never look at a lab result in isolation.

I look at:
➡️Your symptoms
➡️Your medications
➡️Your medical history
➡️Trends over time
➡️Your lifestyle and risk factors
➡️And what your health goals are

Labs don’t tell the whole story, they help tell your story.

If you’ve ever looked at your results and thought, “I have no idea what any of this means,” you’re not alone.

And if you don’t know your numbers yet, or haven’t had lab work done recently, I can help with that, too. Together, we’ll determine which labs make sense for your health goals, order them when appropriate, and then review your results so you understand what they mean and what to do next.

Whether you need guidance on what to test or help interpreting your results, I’m here to help you make sense of your health.

Ready to know your numbers…and understand them? Let’s start the conversation. 💙💊

YOU ASKED:

“I missed a dose…should I take two?”

The answer is one pharmacists give every day:

Usually, no….but it depends on the medication.

Some medications have specific instructions for missed doses. Others should simply be skipped if it’s almost time for your next scheduled dose.

Taking two doses together isn’t always safe and, in some cases, can increase the risk of side effects or other complications.

If you ever miss a dose, don’t guess. 💙

Your pharmacist can help you determine the safest next step based on the medication you’re taking.

Curious…

Do I really need to tell my pharmacist about my vitamins?

The short answer? Yes.

Many people think of vitamins, supplements, and over-the-counter products as completely separate from their prescription medications, but they all become part of your medication story.

Some vitamins and supplements can:
💊 Interact with prescription medications
🩸 Affect lab results
⏰ Change how or when certain medications should be taken

That’s why it’s important to tell your pharmacist about everything you take, not just your prescriptions.

The more complete the picture, the better we can help you avoid interactions, answer questions, and make sure your medications are working as intended.

Because helping you make sense of your medications means looking at the whole picture.

People are often surprised by how much can be accomplished during a medication consultation.

Sometimes it’s answering a question you’ve had for years.

Sometimes it’s discovering that two medications may be causing the same side effect.

Sometimes it’s finding a simpler way to take your medications, or helping you better understand why you’re taking them in the first place.

As a concierge pharmacist, my goal isn’t just to review a medication list.

It’s to help you make sense of your medications, understand your options, and feel more confident about your health.

Whether you’re starting a new medication, taking several prescriptions, managing chronic conditions, or simply looking for another set of eyes, I’m here to help.

Because better healthcare starts with better conversations.

Magnesium has become one of the most talked-about supplements on social media, but here’s what many people don’t realize…

Not all magnesium is the same.

Different forms are absorbed differently, which means they may be better suited for different health goals.

Here’s a quick overview:

💙 Magnesium Glycinate – Often chosen to support sleep, relaxation, and muscle health because it’s well absorbed and generally gentle on the stomach.

💙 Magnesium Citrate – Also well absorbed, but commonly used to help relieve occasional constipation because it has a natural laxative effect.

💙 Magnesium Oxide – Contains a high amount of elemental magnesium but is absorbed less efficiently. It’s more commonly used as an antacid or laxative than to correct magnesium deficiency.

💙 Magnesium L-Threonate – A newer form being studied for its potential role in cognitive health because it may cross the blood-brain barrier more effectively than other forms.

The best magnesium isn’t necessarily the one trending online….it’s the one that’s appropriate for your health goals, medications, kidney function, and medical history.

That’s why there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.

If you’re unsure which form is right for you, that’s a great conversation to have with your pharmacist. Choosing the right supplement can be just as important as choosing the right medication.

From Your Friendly Pharmacist 💙

Creatine ≠ Creatinine

I promise…

They’re not the same thing.

💪 Creatine
A compound your muscles use for energy. It’s also a popular supplement used to support muscle strength and exercise performance.

🩸 Creatinine
A waste product your body naturally produces as your muscles work. It’s commonly measured on blood tests because it helps us understand how well your kidneys are filtering.

So…

Creatine = helps fuel your muscles.

Creatinine = helps assess kidney function.

Similar names.

Very different meanings.

Questions about your supplements, medications, or lab results?

That’s what I’m here for. 💙💊

Sometimes your symptoms don’t fit neatly into one diagnosis.

You’re tired.

You’ve gained weight.

You can’t lose weight.

Your cholesterol changed.

Maybe you’re curious about vitamin deficiencies, inflammation, hormones, or your overall health.

The right lab work can provide valuable information. But understanding what those numbers actually mean is just as important.

At Medicinlogic, we help patients:
✔ Determine which labs may be appropriate
✔ Review and interpret results
✔ Connect those results to medications, nutrition, and overall health
✔ Build a personalized plan based on the whole picture

Because lab results are more than numbers.

They’re another piece of your story.
