September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month!

The UK Markey Cancer Center Ovarian Cancer Screening Program (OVS) provides free annual sonographic screenings to eligible women across Kentucky, with the goal of detecting ovarian cancer earlier.

Screening eligibility:

•Women over the age of 50 (including those who have no symptoms or personal history of ovarian cancer).
•Women over the age of 25 who have a family history of ovarian cancer or other genetic risk factors.

Screenings are currently available at eight locations throughout the state.

This marks the fourth consecutive year the program has been recognized among the nation’s top specialties, reflecting the dedication of our faculty, staff and care teams to advancing women’s health through exceptional care, research and education.

Gynecologic Cancer Surgery also received a “High Performing” designation.

This recognition reflects our team’s ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of care for women across Kentucky and beyond.

We’re proud to celebrate Andrea Tucker, M.D., associate professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, on completing the Safety, Quality, Informatics and Leadership (SQIL) program at Harvard Medical School.

The yearlong, case-based program equips clinicians and health care leaders with the tools to lead quality improvement, strengthen patient safety, use data to drive decision-making and create meaningful change in health care.

The program culminated in a weeklong workshop and graduation at Harvard Medical School in July.

Dr. Tucker’s achievement reflects her commitment to professional growth, quality improvement and excellence in patient care. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Tucker on this accomplishment.

Our final Class of 2026 resident spotlight recognizes Margaret Specht, M.D., whose commitment to patient care and education has helped strengthen our department.

Throughout residency, Dr. Specht has contributed to the department’s mission while caring for patients and supporting fellow learners. After graduation, she will remain at the University of Kentucky, joining the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Generalist Division.

Our final Class of 2026 fellow spotlight celebrates Allison Swiecki-Sikora, M.D., a gynecologic oncology fellow.

During her fellowship, Dr. Swiecki-Sikora advanced the department’s mission through her commitment to patient care, research, education and service. After graduation, she will join Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
