# Where Does Neck Pain Usually Begin?
# # 15 Years of Observations from a Massage Therapist
Hello everyone.
My name is Ming.
I have worked as a massage therapist in the United States for more than 15 years.
During those years, I have worked with thousands of clients.
People often ask me,
"Where does neck pain usually begin?"
This is a very interesting question.
Before I answer, I want to say something important.
This video is not medical advice.
It is not a medical diagnosis.
I am simply sharing what I have personally observed after working with thousands of clients.
Over the years, I have noticed something very interesting.
When I ask clients,
"Can you show me where you feel the discomfort?"
I rarely get the same answer.
Some people point to the back of the neck.
Some point to the side of the neck.
Others point to the top of the shoulder.
Some point between the shoulder blades.
And some people are not sure where it began.
That surprised me.
Many people come in saying,
"My neck hurts."
But when they show me the area,
they often point to different places.
This is one reason why I always ask questions first.
I never assume that every client has the same experience.
I like to understand each person's daily life.
I ask questions like,
"What kind of work do you do?"
"How many hours do you sit each day?"
"Do you spend a lot of time using your phone?"
"Do you drive for long periods?"
These simple questions help me understand the person better.
After working with thousands of clients,
I have learned that daily habits are different for everyone.
Office workers have different routines.
Drivers have different routines.
Students have different routines.
Parents have different routines.
Every person's body is different.
Every person's story is different.
That is why I believe listening is the first step.
Before using my hands,
I use my ears.
I listen carefully.
Then I observe.
Only after that do I begin the massage.
This has been my approach for more than 15 years.
I still learn something new from my clients every week.
That is one reason I enjoy my work.
