Meet Elsie!

Elsie Linder was admitted to the CHKD NICU weighing 1 pound, 12 ounces, where she would spend the next 77 days surrounded by a team determined to help her thrive.

During her NICU stay, Elsie faced numerous challenges, including a pneumothorax (collapsed lung), blood transfusions, multiple chest tubes, and the need for prolonged ventilator support. Her family remembers her primary nurse Jessica Themides as a constant source of support and advocacy throughout her care. While her medical team helped her through each hurdle, Elsie quickly earned a reputation of her own - nearly everyone who entered her room described her as feisty.

“We were loved and cared for and given so much help at CHKD," says Christine Linder, Elsie's mom. "We are forever thankful for how they were part of our miracle."

Elsie went home before her due date to join her brother and sister. Now several years later, she has exceeded milestones and continues to remind her family of the hope they found during those difficult months. One message painted on her NICU window still stays with them today: “Where flowers bloom, so does hope.” ❤️

Special thanks to Marc and Audrey Leishman for stopping by CHKD today to play mini golf and read “Katie Koalas Biggest Fight” to our patients during story time! 💜

We’re grateful for their continued support, incredible work done through the Begin Again Foundation, and dedication to raising awareness of sepsis. Thank you for bringing a little extra fun to our patients and families.
