Today, we enjoyed a wonderful Slow Looking & Making creative session!

We explored the art and photography work of Yolonda Alonso, learning about her work and discovering the story of LeLe, the Mexican doll. Through slow looking, we took time to observe, reflect, and appreciate the details and cultural meaning captured in the artwork. Inspired by Yolonda’s work, we then joined Hannah Johnson to create our own imaginative works, exploring ideas and expressing our creativity through making. 🎨

It was a beautiful opportunity to connect with art, craft and photography, discover cultural stories, and find inspiration through art.

Our Harvest Tasting Table brought all the cozy, magical feelings of fall to life! From the sweet smell of freshly baked apple turnovers and pumpkin bars to warm cups of apple c***r, it was a day full of seasonal treats and festive fun. 🍎🥧☕

We kept the pumpkin magic going with a friendly game of pumpkin ring toss, pumpkin painting, and the perfect soundtrack of oldies to set the fall mood. 🎨🎯🎶

And with pumpkins taking center stage, we couldn't help but imagine a little fairytale magic in the air — because who says a pumpkin can't become something extraordinary? ✨🎃

🎉 Happy 100th birthday, Marguerite! Holiday Willow Groveve] celebrated a remarkable milestone for Marguerite, whose life story spans continents and now a century.

Born in Panama, Marguerite went on to build a career as a purchasing agent for United Aircraft, where she led a team of 30 people. Her advice for leaders is simple: “Listen to people.”

Today, Marguerite spends her evenings enjoying dinner, activities, bingo and plenty of time with her neighbors. When asked what she’s most proud of, her answer is just as simple: “My children.”

"I want to live here forever," says Arlene, a self-proclaimed newbie to Holiday Simi Hills.
"It's so friendly here. In the elevator, someone will say, 'oh, are you new?' – and introduce themselves and start talking." Arlene is living at Holiday Simi Hills to be closer to her daughter and to help out with her granddaughter. The plan was to live in the community for a year and then head back to her house on the coast. But things might change, according to Arlene.

"I hope the man who's renting my place for a year wants to stay longer, or even buy it. This is like being on a cruise. You go to your cabin, you eat in the dining room and you have activities – the only thing you're missing is the water."

Grandparents' Day was stuffed with love! 🧸

Leading up to the celebration, grandchildren dropped off their favorite “stuffies” to stay with residents for the week. The stuffed friends joined in on fitness classes, book clubs and even community outings – and we captured it all in photos to share with their grandchildren.

On Grandparents' Day itself, families reunited for a bingo bash, picked up their stuffies and keepsake photo booklets, and enjoyed a chicken nugget and popsicle bar together.

It was a celebration of the love, laughter and the impact grandparents have on their families.

Communities brought the ultimate game day vibes as residents gathered to enjoy tailgate classics, including walking nachos and dirty soda bars.

The energy was high, the snacks were top-notch and the company was unbeatable. This event was definitely a touchdown for team spirit and community connection! 🏈🎉

“I don’t give up," shares Nancy, who has taken the step challenge at Holiday Maple Suites very seriously.

Nancy beat the record, walking every day for 125 days, helping the community hit ten million steps since March! Her motivation to keep going was more than just her competitive spirit. "I look forward to every step, and every little step helps me."

After recovering from an illness, she knew she had to be dedicated to reach her goal. "These steps are helping, and I am not quitting. I'm getting my daily movement in and enjoying it!

"I like people," shares Vonnie, a resident at Holiday Bridge Park, who has always had a gift for bringing people together.

From working at the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair to spending more than three decades in the restaurant industry, Vonnie has always loved meeting people and making connections. Today she brings that same warmth and enthusiasm to community life – enjoying exercise classes, bingo, reading and getting to know her neighbors.

She especially loves the community’s library and the many opportunities to get out and explore together. “I’m not bashful about mixing in or talking to people,” she adds.

We’re grateful to have Vonnie’s energy, humor and love of people at Bridge Park! ❤️

For nearly 18 years, Janie has lived at Holiday Willow Grove – in fact, she was one of the very first residents to call it home.

Over the years, she’s joined picnics, bus rides, meetings and countless activities, watched team members grow into new roles and witnessed the community become part of so many chapters of life. One thing hasn’t changed: Janie still wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

“I'm still comfortable here. I wouldn't move somewhere else, even if I could.”

Today, Janie especially treasures breakfast with her neighbors and the church services and Bible study that have been part of the community since the beginning.

After nearly two decades, her perspective says it best: “I can count on the people here.”

Surf’s up! We enjoyed fresh beachy bites at our Taste of SoCal events.

We enjoyed French onion dip served with Ruffles potato chips, followed by California Cobb salad served with a whole wheat roll and Dole Whip for dessert!

To top it off, we watched a modern Hollywood classic, La La Land!

We can't wait to see – and taste – the cuisine from our destination next month!
