Celebrating 10 years in the mental health world today with the receipt of my final phase of licensure 🎉
I started this work a decade ago (with an additional decade of child and adolescent development work prior to that). The top two photos, during my first months in wilderness therapy, are reminders of both how far I have come but also how much I am capable of. Not only was I there to support high acuity mental health needs, but I had to keep myself and everyone else alive in below zero temps while sleeping on a tarp. I didn't just sit in an office chair and 'do' therapy. I intimately lived it with them, and that is unique and special and formative. We laughed and cried and suffered and grew together. We found meaning and metaphor and play through it all.
This is what makes me the therapist I am today. I am first and foremost an experiential therapist. I am excellent at creative and meaningful interventions. I am highly driven by my values, by play, and by the connections we have in our work together.
It has taken a decade of work to get here, to have my independent clinical license. It's taken tons of experience in crisis work, teen work, integrative care for adults, pediatric play therapy, and program management. It's taken multiple levels of licensure, over 4200 hours of supervised experience on top of my pre-grad school experience. It's takenl sacrifice to do this work that I enjoy so much.
And in many ways I know this is just the beginning, but I will always remember and come back to 2016 whenever I'm feeling lost or doubtful.
