Deputy Dallas got a new custom molded seat for his wheelchair today! He was a trooper through both of his long seating appointments. They take foreverrrr. We left at 11:30am and just got home at 5:30pm. The last one was an 8hr appointment. A whole lot of sit and wait while they adjust. Watch Cartoons and Pavarotti. Then sit in the chair for 30 min, then check for pressure spots, then sit and wait some more while they make modifications, then sit in it for 30 more mins while they adjust here and trim there etc. But we did it!! And he looks soooo much more BIG and comfy in his new big boy seat 🥰🥰🥰

Deputy Dallas got to celebrate the 90th Birthday of his GREAT Grandma Bunny Dahl Schuberg 🥳🥳🥳

I am so happy we were able to make it! He had a really rough week and even went to the ER on Tuesday night for some IV fluids because he was dehydrated.

But grandma must have prayed EXTRA hard that we could be there because he turned a corner and did GREAT today!

WE LOVE YOU GRANDMA BUNNY!

I hate antibiotics! They have done a number on my poor baby's tummy. ENT told us to stop them yesterday after his morning dose even though his script says not to stop until Friday. But the damage has been done. He would be the happiest little guy in the world then 30min to an hour after getting a dose of augmentin he was crying, hyperventilating, and vomiting. Not to mention the antibiotics diarrhea. We took him to the clinic yesterday to check his electrolytes and and did an abdominal Xray to make sure it wasn't due to ileus or malpositioned j-tube. Those looked ok but he does have gaseous distention in his large intestine. Today I dropped off a stool sample to make sure he doesnt have C. Diff or any other GI bugs. I will say I dont think he has C. diff because it doesnt have that smell that has been burned into my nose hairs. But his tummy is definitely very upset. We also found out from the bronchoscopy that his lipid-laden macrophage index is 96 which is typically associated with chronic severe aspiration so I am not sure what we will do about that.

Right now Dallas is either really really happy, or really really unhappy.

Look who got to go home TODAY 😍😍😍

He did great with surgery. His secretions are SO much more manageable but they do still get a little thick.

We are managing pain well. He will be on antibiotics for 7 days. He is having some mild fevers but that is to be expected. Still waiting on culture results from his bronchoscopy. And we are both SO happy we are able to help him recover from home 💙💙💙

We have been snuggled up on the couch watching Live on Patrol and they had so many prayers and kind words for our little Deputy tonight. Our backseater friends and the Ramsey County Sheriffs Office are simply the BEST!! I am thankful Pat did shout outs early because Dallas was still awake and got to hear them live tonight 😍

He just drifted off to sleep 😴

Dallas is awake now. He has some ouchies on both sides of his neck from where they removed his submandibular glands, a lot of bloody secretions from his mouth because that is where they went in to do the ligation on his left parotid duct, and he has some bruising on his right eye from where they removed some tape (which happens every time he is under general anesthesia) I just always forget to mention it and ask if they can use something less sticky.

He hasn't cried at all since he woke up!!! He even made a little grin when our friend Tony 🎵 stopped by to say hi 🥰 All of his musical instruments were down in the ED so we just played one of the videos I took from our last hospital stay and Dallas seemed to enjoy that. But otherwise he has been really quiet and chill.

This boy is such a little warrior. He is my superhero 💙🦸‍♂️👮‍♂️

Deputy Dallas is out of surgery and we just got up to our PICU room. He is still sound asleep but everything went well with his surgery and procedures.

Preliminary results from lung bronchoscopy samples show a lot of neutrophils which usually means there is inflammation in the lungs and possible infection. But there was no visible bacteria seen under the microscope. They are running cultures to see what grows and susceptibility testing if anything does grow. Cultures should take about 48-72hrs.

Good news is if anything is growing he is already on antibiotics for the next 10 days because of the surgery.

Oh, and he lost another her tooth in the OR! I did warn them that the dentist said his two front teeth were a little wiggly, but I didn't think they were THAT wiggly!! Hopefully his handsome little smile doesn't look too ridiculous with one Billy Bob tooth 🤣🤣

Dallas has been taken back for his surgery and procedures. 🙏 He was very j***y this morning but in good spirits! He was also very sleepy because mom had to wake him up so dang early.

It should take about 1.5-2 hours.

Everyone say some prayers for our handsome little Deputy Dallas! He has surgery tomorrow at Children's MPLS and we will be in the hospital for a few days. We will be addressing several things. But the main one is excessive excessive secretions. As you can see in this picture. Which was taken less than a minute after suctioning his mouth out 🙃🤤

So let's talk about what all is happening tomorrow! I will go from least to most invasive.

First, he is going to get his GJ tube switched out which is standard every 3 months. Then they will do a nasal cauterization. Dallas has frequent nose bleeds which really interferes with his respiratory treatments and keeping his airway clear. Next, they will do a bronchoscopy to assess his airway and lungs. They wil also take some biopsies of his lungs and hopefully clear out copious amounts of mucous and secretions to help him breathe better. And lastly, they will be doing what is called a DROOL procedure. We have tried everything to keep his secretions under control, including botox. Nothing has worked. He is on 3 medications daily to help with secretions and he is still just constantly drowning himself. And unfortunately, these medications cause other side effects that impact his heart rate, temp regulation, and gut motility. So they are going to remove both of his submandibular (saliva) glands and do a Parotid duct ligation. Which should help reduce his saliva by 50-75% and also reduce the risk of pneumonia AND we can get him off these medications!

He will spend a few days in PICU to recover and so we can keep a close eye on his respiratory status after these procedures. Pray that everything goes smooth, that he is not too uncomfortable post op, and that we will be back home by next week 🙏🙏🙏
