🐴 Why do our horses love a good dirt bath?

If you've ever visited FireFly Farm and wondered why our horses roll around in the dirt right after being brushed, don't worry—they aren't trying to undo all our hard work! 🤣

Rolling is a natural behavior that helps horses stay comfortable, especially during the warmer months. A layer of dirt can help:
☀️ Provide some protection from the sun
🪰 Discourage biting flies and insects
💦 Help sweat evaporate and keep them more comfortable
🌿 Soothe itchy skin and loosen shedding hair
💛 Stretch their backs and simply enjoy being a horse!

One of the things we love most at FireFly Farm is watching our animals do what comes naturally. Every roll, graze, and playful moment is a reminder that sometimes the best wellness comes from slowing down, connecting with nature, and just being yourself.

So next time you see one of our horses happily covered in dirt, know they're not making a mess—they're practicing a little natural self-care. 🐴✨

Did you know cows spend 6–8 hours a day ruminating? 🐄

Rumination is the process of bringing food back up to chew it again, allowing cows to get every bit of nourishment from what they’ve already eaten. It’s not rushed—it’s slow, intentional, and necessary.

As humans, we also need time to “ruminate.” Not in the sense of getting stuck in negative thoughts, but by taking time to reflect on our experiences, emotions, and lessons. Sometimes we need to revisit a conversation, a challenge, or even a joyful moment before we fully understand what it has to teach us.

Healing and growth aren’t always about moving faster. Sometimes they’re about slowing down, sitting with our thoughts, and allowing ourselves the space to process.

At the farm, our animals remind us that rest, reflection, and patience all have a purpose. Maybe today is your reminder that it’s okay to pause, think, and grow at your own pace.
