Don't let this be you: Chris and Carolyn McAuliffe are in their 60s but don’t expect to retire anytime soon. **They’re still paying off their student-loan debt, which has ballooned to a half-million dollars.**

“I regret going to college,” said Chris, an engineer for a health insurance company.

When they earned their graduate degrees decades ago, the couple owed a combined $114,000 in student loans. With stable careers—Carolyn in nursing—they stayed on top of their monthly payments. Then they bought a house and had two children and money got tight, so they consolidated their loans and opted for a payment plan that lowered their monthly bill.

That extended the life of their loan, and compounding interest charges kept pushing up their balance.

Student loans are following more Americans into what were supposed to be their retirement years.

Occupations with high vulnerability to AI-driven job loss account for an estimated $757 billion in annual U.S. income, or about 7.5% of total labor income from wages and salaries. The occupations most vulnerable to AI are Writers and Authors (57%), Computer Programmers (55%), and Web and Digital Interface Designers (55%) in terms of proportion of jobs affected. The greatest total income loss falls on Software Developers, Management Analysts, and Market Research Analysts/Marketing Specialists — reflecting both their high salaries and the volume of workers affected."

Universities are essentially teaching vices: "intemperance, disrespect, carelessness, impatience, bad faith, arrogance, obduracy, thoughtlessness, and cowardice," which is contrary to the purpose of education.

Either universities appoint and promote professors who display and disseminate intellectual virtues, or they reward those who exemplify and cultivate intellectual vices.

"Amphetamine-dextroamphetamine is an established prescription medicine for attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. It is considered safe and effective when it is prescribed and its use monitored.

Its illicit use is of concern, however, as "an increasing number of high school and college students are taking Adderall without prescription, abusing these drugs for both cognitive enhancement and recreational use to enhance performance in tests and sports, respectively," according to Svatikova's group. "There are a myriad of adverse effects from Adderall consumption ... Sudden cardiac death, cardiomyopathy, stroke, and myocardial infarction due to Adderall consumption have been documented in individual case reports."
