Read an interesting article by John Townsend in the American Association of Christian Counselors' journal about emotional security. He lists four key stages, with my take on each:
1) Attachment--connecting well as a bab/tyoddler to safe parent(s),
2) Separation--having emotional safety as a child spends more time away from parent(s),
3) Integration--moving easily as a "tween or teenager" between closeness to parent(s) and separation from parent(s),
4) Adulthood--being an emotional secure person who can be safe emotional security for children.
The acronym "ASIA" captures those four key stages.
